Napa's started to whine occasionally when he's given a bully bone. He'll chew it, and then pick it up, walk around and start whining. He's not aggressive with it. I'm more than able to go over and take it from him, and keep it from him. We're just not sure what the whining is about. He did go and try to hide it in one of our walk in closets? Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks!

my thoughts (from observing Dexter) is that he may be afraid you will try to take it from him. Have you given them before? Maybe it's so good he is overwhelmed by it? Dex will also run away w/high prized things...because he knows Kirby will try to take them from him :)

Bailey does this with bully sticks (and only bully sticks) also. He runs around whining and looks desparately for a place to stash it. Sometimes he doesn't even chew any of it before he starts looking for a special spot for his special bully. I think they are just precious to them.

Napa's had bully bones since he was very young, but the behavior only started this weekend, after he spent a few nights at doggie daycare/ boarding. We don't every REALLY take it away. We leave them around the house until we feel their too small for him to chew on safely. But, just because I don't want him to guard it, I do take it away but then give it back. so perhaps he has learned to hide it because of daycare?

Thanks for the ideas!

My old Cocker did that all the time. No one had ever tried to take it from him. He would also look for a place to "bury" it in the house....usually under my pillow, or stuffed in the couch! It was hysterical to me, but a big deal for him.

Dewey has just started doing the same thing!! He's had bullys for months now, but I gave him one the other day and I thought he was whining because he didn't want to chew it right then but knew if he left it lying around I would take it away...strange behavior!
