After battling the mats with Sadie's coat I am ready to invest in a les pooches brush. However, now I see there are several different kinds to choose from. Can anyone recommend the best one to purchase for an F1B with a curly, poodley coat? I think it's a wool coat? Still not sure about that but it mats easily, especially around her neck and head.

Jannie, I have the double purple Les Pooches brush but I don't find that it helps with getting at mats in the neck area. I find that brushing it with a pin brush first and then using the rotating comb and thinning shears helps. I use the Les Pooches on the back and some on the legs but I don't find that it helps get out mats. I find that combing all the ways down to the skin is the only way to get them out.....sorry...probably not what you wanted to hear.

Oh and when they are really bad, I rub in Ice on Ice and that helps.

DoodleCountry.com is a great website for info about Les Pooches brushes. The manager has doodles themselves and was very helpful in picking the right brush. She was very honest with me when I explained my doodle's coat and said that I wouldn't need one b/c I have a shedder! She pointed me to the slicker bush.

By the way, your doodle is adorable!

Thanks everyone.

The brushes are quite pricey so I was hoping for miracles! But maybe there is no such thing. Nancy, I would be interested in hearing about the less expensive brush you refer to.

I did purchase the Best Shot trio and that seems to help a bit but she mats badly every time she swims. And she LOVES SWIMMING so I don't want to deprive her of that joy.

I talked with a friend at the dog park and she had a furminator comb. She got ALOT of excess fur out of sofie. At the website it said not for poodles so im confused. it seemed to work great and only $40 compared to les pooch. Any ideas or opinions of "Furminator"?

I have found a flexible brush Looks and works just like the lespooch
i have used it for about 2 weeks now, and i like it,
i would suggest purchasing a soft and a hard to see which you like they are affordable either under 10.00
goto www.petedge.com search for flexible brush
I am actually including these brushes with all wavy curly puppies that go to their new homes, i like them hope you will
I know its saving me lots of money, i still have lespooch brushes and will always use them ,,this is just a cheaper version not sure quite a good but almost :)

Mike...I use the Furminator on my doodle, Angel. But she is a shedding doodle and the Furminator is a de-shedding tool. Does Sofie shed? I LOVE the furminator and if your doodle is a shedder it's the best $40 spent! Amazon.com has the cheapest price that I could find. I have the medium sized. It is just the right size.

Hi Nicole- Sofie has a curly/wavy coat and she doesn't shed on furniture or when you pet her. Only a little when I brush her. Thats why I was suprised my friend was getting so much fur out of her with that Furminator!! It almost looked as if she was getting a haircut!!

I'm trying to decide which brush to get for Malcolm. He has a curly fleece coat. I keep him cut fairly short and get him cut every 5 or 6 weeks. I'm stuck between the green one and the purple one.

I have a rake and a comb and a slicker brush right now, but looking for something that would work better and maybe let him enjoy being brushed more :)
