1) When people you don't know see your dog, do they ever ask, "Is that a __________?"
What breed or mix of dog do they guess that your dog is?

2) When people who don't know your dog make a comment about it, such as "He's cute" or "She's cute" which do they assume more often - that it is male? or female? Are they right?

These questions are just for fun, of course. People have assumed so many things about Annabelle and it's always interesting to hear. Just wondering if you hear a variety of comments about your doodle too.

PEANUT is a showstopper, everyone wants to KNOW what she is and falls in love with her saying she looks a like a walking stuffed animal or polar bear

Beau everyone thinks is a labradoodle or golden retriever hahahaa

Annabelle is a skinny minny, so just about everyone refers to her as a girl.
I've had a few people ask is she was an Irish Wolfhound, most people just ask what she is, some give a funny look when I say Labradoodle, but most say "how cute" or "what is a labradoodle"

I grew up with a little white male Westie Terrier and everybody used to think he was a girl.
I thought maybe it was because he was fluffy and white, and wondered if people thought that was a feminine trait.

Now I find that most people call Annabelle a "he". She has a pink collar and usually I use her pink leash or her orange and yellow polka dot leash, but people still often call her a "he". Maybe since she has SO MUCH hair people think she looks big and therefore they think that is a masculine trait. It may also be that her hair is all fluffed out and not cut in a particular style or cut, which they think looks male. It doesn't matter to me what people think she is, but it's just a fascinating little observation to me. To me she is a total girly girl (her personality) except when she plays ball outside - then she's a cute tomboy.

As far as what breed or mix people have guessed that she is:

-Labradoodle
-Goldendoodle
-Golden Retriever mix
-Irish Wolfhound
-Wheaten Terrier (this one comes up about as much as labradoodle and goldendoodle. In fact, even a couple Wheaten Terrier owners have thought she is a Wheaten)
-Italian Spinone - this one was most fascinating because I had never heard of it. When I looked it up I could see why someone guessed that.

One little girl and her mother said Annabelle looks like Sandy from the movie Annie. A few have said she looks like a Benji type dog or that dog from the movie "Because of Winn Dixie".

Most often wrong guess is a standard poodle.
Lots of people say she looks like a sheep.

Went to the groomer and some people in the waiting area said, "That is the biggest Labradoodle we've ever seen." She's only 45 lbs (14 mos old). I explained that she is really not big for her age. In fact, I'd say she's about medium size. Lots of doodles go over 60 lbs, and some minis are smaller.

But, everyone says she is so cute - and she is!

Everyone thinks Sandy is a girl (even before I say his name) and they all guess goldendoodle :) Nobody knows quite what Molly is - the average guess is that she is a "lab mix"

Abbey is only 4 months old, yet we have had more people ask about her than any other dog we've had. It really is amazing. If you walk a lab most people recognize the breed. But with a doodle, it's not so easy. I think each doodle is so unique people are puzzled. My husband and I have talked about this and decided that she is so different looking they just can guess the breed. She is chocolate color and not many dogs are that color. She is small and has long wavy hair. It is so funny. After we go through "what is she" then they say, "Oh, a Labradoodle, my friend has one."

There are three other doodles in Abbey's puppy class. Two are Labradoodles and one is a Goldendoodle. But they all look a little different. And all (even the minis) are larger than Abbey. She is 4 months old and 14.6 lbs. And she is chocolate and they are all blond. So there is little standardization. It is fun to watch people's reactions to the doodle.

Most peopole guess that Tanner is a female standard poodle. This baffles me too as he doesn't act girly at all.

A couple have guessed Wheaton and maybe 25% have guessed Labradoodle...some even argue that he is not a Labradoodle....he is a Poodle mix...3/4 poodle 1/4 lab

oh yeah - when Dex was a puppy we got Wheaton all the time. Then as he got big we started getting "I would say Wheaton, but he's so big" :)
