we have the same vittle vault you posted to store food.

We really only give this one type of biscuit as treats. We bought a plastic container w/a snap down lid from target (it has dog bones on it so it is intended for treats). They sell the same thing at Petsmart, but for double the price.

Leslie I think I have seen that one. I almost got it but didn't for some reason. Cacao only gets these Apple treats and her training treats. But during the day only the apply treats. I just wanted something easy to open but yet something that will keep the bugs out. In the summer we have ants. We spray and they go away but I don't want them to get into her stuff.

Our dog food is stored in a plastic garbage can with a screw on lid. I don't know where we got it but it is perfect for dog food. It keeps it fresh and is doodle-proof. Our treats are in the cookie jar on the counter.

We use the Vittle Vault for dog food. And we have a cute doggie jar for biscuits type treats. Although my husband got carried away and bought a variety of treats that will stay in their bags until we're rid of them. We usually just give Abbey Charley Bear treats for training. We give her a dog biscuits when we put her in her crate for the night.

Is there a problem just keeping it in the bag it comes in? Maya's food lasts just about a month so it isn't open long. Should I get a container?

I keep the kids food in one of those large plastic containers for wrapping paper. Its tall and doesn't take up much room and fits a 35-40 lb bag of food perfectly! :)

We do a mix of two different foods so we mix it and put it in a trash barrel in a heavy duty bag in the basement The we have stackable container in the kitchen for the day to day food. Having 3 dogs we fill the kitchen container fairly often. We have the smaller stackable for their bones and we buy our treats at BJ's and they come in nice containers so they just stay in them.

We keep Sam's food in a large metal trashcan/bucket with a lid over the top. It is what we used to use for our previous doggie...

We wash it out each time we re-fill it.
I read that the oils in the dog food can become stale on the inside, possibly causing an upset tummy/diarrhea.

We keep Kahlua's in a metal garbage can with lid. Great for mouse control as they can chew through plastic. The 29lb bag gets dumped in there. The smaller bag has a zip-lock top, we keep that one to re-fill for weekends away (Oh those weekends away, they'll be starting again soon, it's almost summer!)
Yeah, our metal can hold 3/4 of the 40 lb bag and the rest gets ziplocked away.
