I am new to the forum and have a question about raising two doodles at the same time. George and Gracie are 5 months old and doing great with crate training. But it's really chaotic getting them accustomed to being out in the house. One will dash behind the sofa and chew a lamp cord while the other is chasing the cat. We have them out in the house as much as possible, but they are generally tethered to a table where we are working or tied to our belt loops. Both my husband and I are home most of the time and we can sort of divide and conquer. But it's almost like they are so smart they know they can literally run rings around us when they're both are out. I'm afraid they're learning some bad habits. I see your sweet photos of doodles on the sofa or napping quietly and I'm jealous...My doodles are NEVER still enough to take a picture at all, unless they're confined in some way. They are angels when we take them on separate outings, love the car, sit quietly when they have to wait, watch happily out the windows, etc. But having them out in the house is crazy. And they spend a lot of time in their crates. Is this normal puppy behavior?

two puppies at the same time

Thanks for the feedback. I see you saw George and Gracie where I posted their photo. Cute, huh? (I saw your guys on your website - What precious babies!) I guess we're doing okay, from your experience with two. I was starting to feel a little cruel with them in their crate so much during the holidays. But then Santa  brought them each a fluffy bed for xmas. They get bones to chew and tethered near their beds while we watch tv at night. I'm surprised how quickly they've gotten attached to the beds.

But I have another crate question. We have one really HUGE crate that is divided down the center with a door on either end. It has been great for them to do it this way. But I'm worrying that their spaces are too small now. They have plenty of head room and they can stand and lie down and turn around and all that, but they can't fit anymore to do their doodle sprawl while napping. When do we have to get another crate?

Yes, George and Gracie are named after Burns and Allen... but they are littermates.

Maybe we'll try to take out the divider in their crate and see how they do. They get really competitive when they have toys, but they sleep together on the porch, so maybe they can adjust. I hate to get another big crate, but I expect we're going to need to crate them for at least another 6 months - and I'm pretty sure they're still going to grow some. George is about 50 pounds and Gracie about 45. They still look bigger every morning when I get up!
