trimming around the eyes

I have a 4 month old named Kolby. He is the mellowest dog I have ever had. We have always had labs before with little grooming needs. Do you trim around the eyes so they can see better? If so how do you go about this?

We will use our fingers to grab the hair (so our hand is protecting the eyes) and trim the hair the comes through our fingers (if that makes sense). That way if our doodle moves while we're cutting, we have protection against their eyes.

That's what I do, and only after coming home from the dog park.
