ok - I hate them - thats all I need to say!
I pulled three off of Charlie in the last two weeks and today at work we found a mega tick good Lord they are ugly! We have hunters at work so one of them came up and took it out then took it down to look at it under a magnigying glass to make sure it was all there - this is the only flaw Charlie has - tick magnet :!:
I have not gotten the frontline yet to put it on him but I am going to the vet tomorrow to get it any recommendations for tick shampoos? removing ticks from the face of the earth? etc.....

Hey - I just noticed I have a story about Charlie - I feel like part of the family now!!!!

The best defence is the Frontline. I just wish they made it for humans, too. I hate ticks and once I find one - anywhere - it gives me the "heeby jeebies!" {{{shiver all over!}}} I took one off Cinnamon last weekend even though she's on Frontline. It was a small one and I think I found it right after it got on her. Most of the time when I find them in the house it's already dead. That's the best kind of tick, a dead one.

I never found any shampoo that killed ticks. Sprays work but you have to spray it right on the tick. Best thing is to kill them yourself.

I know, EEWWW!!!!

Found another tick tonight and I live in Town and keep my lawn mowed and have cut down trees - I think my husband snuck Charlie off to the golf course while I was out with my daughter - How do you find them on a Doodle - it is just about impossible - I need to invent a light that they run through when they come in from outside that makes them glow or what about running a dood through two bug lights closely lining the path to the door. What do you all think?

i think you need to call the TICK by its name and it'll come out on its own
and use black lights for effect

yuck

Hate them too! The Frontline doesn't keep Cody from getting ticks but it makes them die once they feed. I bought a little metal thingy with a small magnifying glass attached to it at a museum. It came with a chart showing all the kids of ticks. The metal piece is bent with a small slit cut into it. You slide it under the tick's body and it just pulls it right out without leaving anything behind. I use it on my boy's as well. After leaving too many tick heads embedded I needed an alternative to tweezers. This thing works great!

I use Advantix on Fred and it does a good job of keeping the ticks off. We put Frontline on one of the dogs last year to compare, and Fred--who had the Advantix--went tick free while the other dog would come in with several. This year both are on Advantix.

I'm way late to this party, but I remember my cousin's wedding. Her sister (another cousin, obviously) was one of the bridesmaids. She came into the church before the ceremony, and pulled the lapel of her gown to the side. THERE SAT A TICK, ABOUT 3 INCHES BELOW HER SHOULDER.

She was going to go to the hospital to have it removed (she tried EVERYTHING at home, no good), but she didn't want to miss the wedding. So she brought her tick/escort to the ceremony, and then went to the ER afterward.

Now THAT's taking one for the team!! I was totally skeeved.

I agree completely and ordered the Advantix for Charlie and Cat - they will both be happy and so will I.

Now how can I get rid of mice - they have eaten the bait out of all of the traps, eight of them - they are digging (putting it mildly) they have removed a HILL literally to use for fill in the meadow and all the critters are moving in on me.

did you try Peanutbutter??? that usually works
We get real smart mice in this house from the fields
and if it peanutbutter doesn't work...well I finally had to resort to poison bait  once in my basement. I swear this mouse would pop his head out and be laughing at me!!! i hated that mouse

We had a bad mice problem one year when a house was built in the field next door to us. The only way we got rid of them was poison, they would run through the traps, nothing. We caught one by the leg once. I was woke to a bunch of banging while the thing was trying to go through the stove burner and couldn't.

I've also used those sticky traps and they work if you put bait in the middle of them, they'll try to take the bait and step in the goo. The only thing is you have this live mouse to get rid of, but you don't have to set the regular traps.

Good luck!

Ticks

Here down under there is a huge problem in the Northern beaches of Sydney
there is one dog walking beach in a place I think called Bayview a friend of mines sister has lost 3 dogs to ticks, council have been told but because it is the only dogbeach in the northern beaches and such a so called scandal I have been told, it may lower house prices. People are allegedly moving in the area paying huge prices for all types of breeds Labradoodles included it is a very very sad situation. :(

Frontline and Advantix work great, but wont' stop the tick from getting on!
Also my vet won't sell Advantix because it is harmful to cats....but they sell and we use Frontline. (Advantage for fleas is okay for cats, but Advantix is harmful to them.)
You can also use a flea collar to keep the ticks off. The Frontline kills them once they bite, but wont' repell them.
I agree with (and got a good laugh from) Ann Marie!
