Sam learned drop it form me playing fetch with her. She automatically had the sense to give up the item your playing fetch with, but sometimes she would want to play a mild game of tug first (this mostly came after I got her tug toys and she learned tug). One reason I wanted her to learn drop it soon was she likes chewing on rocks. The only thing I have read on that is that it can hurt their teeth, so I was motivated for drop it to be known. Well after a few games of fetch with me saying drop it everytime se caugt on. Now when she picks up a rock she will drop it on command ( or maybe on the 2nd or 3rd try) instead of having to pry her mout open to het the rock out.
My point is, maybe some of the other doodle owners could easily teach drop it during fetch, even if the dog already pretty much drops the fetch toy anyway.
Doodles are so smart! Is it the lab or the poodle wit the brains? Luckily its both.
