Cinnamon has started something that really has me baffeled. Now that it's 102 in the shade around here (for the last 2 weeks, I might add) Cinnamon has decided that she wants to lay in the sun during the day. Of course I call her in when I see her start, but what's up with that! She used to never want out during the day, even though I'm home with her most of the day (work from home). But now she's wanting out right after my lunch, around 1 or 2 in the afternoon. I'm assuming she's bored, but geez!!

She doesn't pee or poop, just goes out and plops down in the sun on the little dirt spot around the steps.

She has turned sun bleached blonde this summer, could it be she's having blonde moments?

It's funny to see this post...Boudica just started doing what you described. She seems to wait until the hottest part of the day, then takes a toy, goes out the dog door, and plops down on the patio. She chews on the the toy for a bit, then naps. Very strange...I assumed that the dark dogs would rather be inside.

Boy, I don't know...it is very odd...especially given that the behavior is new. You might want to take her temp when she is inside, I wonder if it is low??? If so, a vet check is in order.
Is she going into heat? (No pun intended!) Hormones can cause them to do weird things...
My dogs don't like the sun, excpet for Bayley, and she only likes it to a point. Most of my dogs want to be COLD.

my 4 pound poodle LOVES to lay in the sun even when its 100. (he hated hated hated the sun when he was little) I think it acts like a heating pad and just makes his bones feel good! That or he needs the vitamin D :) I usually let him go for a little while then bring him in!

Becky...good one!! hahahhaa

my doodles do not lay in the sun, they seek the shade of the tree when outside, love laying under the ceiling fan beside me or the floor fan. Then again by 2 or 3 pm the cellular shades are drawn down 2/3 of the way otherwse the southern exposure makes it too bright and hot in here.

My first thoughts were arthritis... which gets relief from heat...
or hypothyroid, which throws off the bodies internal thermostat, so might leave the dog feeling chilled in an air conditioned environment.

Of course, it could just be a personality quirk that the rest of us don't share. LOL

I think it's the personality quirk. When she comes into the house she lays in front of the fan on the tile floor or goes to the basement. So she's hot when she does it.

I still think she's trying for the blonde look.

I haven't let her stay in the sun for a while now, way too hot. I'm thinking she'll forget about it by the time cooler weather comes, which should be about October!
