all of a sudden shaia is dropping hairs everywhere - not like tons (as i've heard when they blow their coats) but when i brush her, the brush is full of fur. and there's hair on the couch, in the bed, and somehow it always ends up in my mouth she never shed up until now - do they blow their coats and then return to no shedding? or does this mean she sheds? it's definitely not wirey lab fur - more like wavy softer hairs. i love her coat and hope it doesn't change!!! but just curious what others have to say :wink:

I have been getting much more hair off Annabelle the past couple weeks with brushing and some hairs on bed, I'm guessing it's the change in weather as I normally get no where near this much off her

interesting point - we've had some unseasonably warm weather as of late, even though it's normally same temp all year round here. i do remember that the horses used to have a great big shed in early spring and i wonder if dogs are seasonal like that too. i can't recall with my previous dogs.

one of my labs always shed worse with weather change, I dont recall AB shedding this much last spring though

how funny - mary, i just now noticed you live in bristol - i grew up in franklin, TN - that's where we had the horse farm!!

I've not been to Franklin, we've lived here 13 years now but I have not seen much of TN, we pass thru knoxville on the way to Atlanta to see the kids and we drove across the state once on the way to Oklahoma, that's about the extent of my tennessee travels :shock:

don't fret........BEAU and Peanut both blew puppy coat that i thought they'd end up bald and i'd never get it off my coats, clothes etc

BEAU is done and is totally nonshedding as is Peanut.
usually if they didn't shed before blowing puppy coat, they go back to being nonshedding when done.

how long? ours took 2mos to blow puppy coat

i guess it started a couple weeks ago? it's still not as dramatic as i pictured when they blow their coats - i thought there would be bucketfuls of hair everywhere!! when i used to brush her, hardy any hair would come off, now the brush is clogged. did their coats change much in texture afterwards?

mary....the hair coats such as my Max the black one, his coat changed every 6 weeks or so during the 1st 13mos.
it's even changing again at 21mos, getting a tad longer, shaggy and scruffy with tiny curls forming on his skinny legs. It also is now so much softer and less coarse than as a puppy.

OH now our 3 doodles would start to blow puppy fur big time say for 2 weeks then following week be minimal and it went back and forth like a pendulum for 2mos and then one day it stopped :shock:

BEAU is completely nonshedding but Max and Peanut right now are shedding due to weather, i figure Beau isn't since he was losing puppycoat.
