He seems fine, ran around and played like mad today...
No throw-up or diarrhea anywhere either.

The plate and shredded tinfoil was on the floor when I got home from school today.

What should we do/watch for?

Maya ate some brownies not too long ago and I called the emergency vet and they said if it has been more than 5 hours it is out of their system.

At least he left the plate and foil! hahaha

I hope he is ok.

remember those huge hershey's kisses - the jumbo ones they sell around easter? one of my former dogs ate nearly an ENTIRE one (and he was little - 20lbs) and suffered absolutely no ill effects. my choco lab in college ate a plate of brownies and same thing, totally fine. i think it's the pure dark choco and A LOT of it that affects them. i've heard varying amounts from different sources but i would just keep an eye on him.

We keep some charcoal capsules on hand for such events. Charcoal evidently absorbs the toxins in chocolate.

I agree that most large dogs can eat a bit of chocolate without any bad effects. Years ago, our standard poodle survived eating a pound of fudge.

Although I think it's CRAZY and NOT a good idea, I knew a family in high school that would feed their dog M&Ms as training treats because he loved them so much. Not saying we should do that, but I guess not all chocolate is hurtful.

Hey guys...

Sammy-Doodle is A-Ok!
We had a blast together outside a few minutes ago...
It's too bad I'm leaving for China tomorrow and he'll have to be without what my family calls "his Alpha", that's me!

I just read a story today about a dog that got into some chicken with tin foil. It didn't seem to cause any problems until a few weeks after the incident. They got an abdominal xray and found that the foil had lined her digestive tract. The way it was sitting in there caused major problems and had devastating consequences.

Hope Sammy doesn't have any problems from his chocolate cake adventure!
