A local breeder is stating that they place a puppy with a family based on temperment and personality. They won't allow the family to choose the puppy they want. Is this normal for breeders or is this a red flag? Would you put down a $500 non refundable deposit down without knowing which puppy you are getting?

We are

We have a local breeder here in BC, Canada that does this. They ask the family to complete quite a detailed questionnaire and then use that information to match the puppy to the family. I actually like this from the perspective that without it we would probably choose the puppy based on coat colour and initial meeting when really they are in a better position to really know the personality of each puppy. The breeder invited all the families to meet all the puppies in one meeting and that gave everyone a chance to meet all the puppies. Anyway we get our puppy at the end of the month and I can let you know how it went.
