we occasionally give kumo a cow's ear rather than rawhide -- they don't disintegrate and get all stuck in his fur like the rawhide did, and they also don't get all smelly and slimy like pig's ears.
our local vet dentist cautioned us about nylabones. he said that the clear, flexible, "gumma" ones are ok, but that he gets many cases of dogs coming in with broken teeth from chewing on the hard nylabones. apparently rubber chew toys give, and natural bones will crack and break -- but the nylabones don't.
fortunately for us, kumo isn't a super-chewer
