I've been meaning to ask this for a long time, but finally remembered... Why are Labradoodles always the product of a male Poodle and a female Lab?

I know the overall gene distribution is a crap shoot, but I'm wondering if the mother being a Poodle or a Lab has some influence on the offspring.

OK here's a topic just recently that discusses JUST this

why breed female lab to male poodle
http://labradoodle-dogs.net/forums/about6464.html

Jac down towards bottom of page give really good insight

and also in past people thought possibly a female poodle might have trouble giving birth to bigger puppies than a female lab

Nowadays breeders are using both for females
and Maureen down towards bottom of this post answers it well too

Lastly though, no matter whether a female is a Lab or Std Poodle it shouldn't have more than a 4in height difference from the DAD
to avoid structure/skeletal problems.
