Hi, this seems a bit soon for losing the full puppy coat, but yes, the coarser hairs or fur IS the guard hair type, and it is primarily on the dog's back. And usually the presence of those is an indicator of some shedding, which you are already seeing, I suspect.

OH YES!! If he was just boarded away from you then the shedding makes ALL the sense in the world.
We have this rubber glove we use on our F1 doodle, who does shed.
It's like pre-emptive shedding, :wink: rather than have the hair in the air!

I would really think this shedding is a reaction to being boarded and not knowing where you were. I bet you've got a few months before he goes into full"Blown" shedding. so to speak. :wink:
