·Today was a sad day for us. Our sweet 10+ year old Black Lab Patty died. Some of you may remember reading my posts about her multiple health issues (due to irresponsible breeding – see my post “a message to breeders & to those looking for one” in the “finding a breeder” section November 2005)
Well, she has had some lipomas (fatty tumors) in various locations on her body over the years & recently got an especially big one at the base of her throat, near her carotid artery & some nerves that run down into the chest. Two different vets said it was too dangerous to operate so close to the artery & nerves so we knew it was just a matter of time. I guess it finally got big enough to cause massive problems. She’d been not quite herself for a few days & last night took a turn for the worse. We took her to the vet at 7:30 this morning & an hour later were back home burying her in our yard next to our sweet Daisy who died right after Christmas. She had a life filled with love, even if she wasn’t always in the best of health & also had a peaceful death without any prolonged suffering, so we are thankful for that. It’s actually amazing she lived these many years considering her medical history. We have had 3 beloved pets die in the last 12 months (our cat died the day after Easter last year) so our hearts are very heavy.
Thank goodness we have our cutie-pie Odie to keep our spirits up. We are also awaiting Odie’s sibling (same set of parents) in May so that’s a good thing to look forward to - no new puppy can take the place of our Patty or Daisy who will forever be in our hearts, but at least we’ll have an additional furry critter to give our love to.
Thanks for listening.
Wishing you all a Happy Easter, Passover & Springtime sunny days ahead.
