My cell phone rang (it was Kevin) and just as I picked it up, before saying hello, Dex started barking his head off and I heard crack crunch crack, and I was screaming "OMG it's falling, it's going to get us!" A half a tree is now resting on my entire back deck, not a foot from the house. And the night's not over yet. I'm so scared I can't stop shaking and crying. Times like these I HATE having hubby gone.

Ok Rita, deep breath, you are fine! Hang in there, hubby will be home soon enough, I am so glad you and Dex are safe! Wish I lived closer to come help you.
(Bright side: Maybe Dex will go poop on the deck now that there's some 'woods' there!)

Hubby's boss just asked him to stay out til Jan. 4. It's a ton of extra $$ so I said okay. Nothing he could do here anyway, except comfort me.

Dex looked out back and growled alot about 5 minutes before the crash. I suspect he heard it cracking. So I'm listening to him now. And we're sleeping on the daybed, the farthest bed from the back.

Rita, it's so hard, but you have Dexter and January 4th will be here before you know it! The extra money will be nice... maybe use some for a small vacation to someplace warm for the 3 of you!

I'm in Illinois, near St. Louis. I haven't heard any more cracks and I'm settling down a bit. Going to take a tylenol p.m. and try to sleep a bit.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I had no idea I'd react so badly. Storms usually don't spook me. This one did.

Hopefully the worst of the storm is over, you have a right to be scared, shaky etc, a tree fell on your deck !

I totally understand how you feel, when we lived in Fla, our house got struck by lightening twice in one night and our fence and well got hit, enough to scare the heebeegeebees out of you !

Hope the tylenol pm helps you calm down and you and Dexter get some rest tonite

Hi Rita - hope you had a restful night in spite of your awful scare, and that you didn't have any more damage. I'm sure that Dexter kept you safe and sound - and all your doodle friends were thinking about you!

Rita how did the rest of the night go and were you able to get some sleep? Hopefully all the bad weather is out of your area, I think it is out west and north of us. Was it ice or a strong storm? Try and have a good day!
