So I'm in the den and smell this awful odor... figured Moses passed gas which he rarely does, but it happens. Then I get an even stronger wiff of it and hear him start to growl down deep. I know it's just he and I home, so go to check it out.

There, in the middle of my living room floor stand Moses, and dhs cat Sebastian, arguing over which of them should eat the back half of the full grown dead rabbit the cat's managed to sneak in the house! I had a devil of a time shooing them both away once they realized I was taking it from both of them! So I'm trying to prevent them from a snatch and run as I'm trying to locate something to pick it up with as there's no way I can put my bare hand on that half eaten bunny. I finally grabbed a newspaper, pick up the remains and out the door I go. At least I found out what was smelling so foul!

We're replacing the insulation under the house, so there's an open spot in the crawlspace right now and the cat pulled this rabbit in through the area around the dryer vent!

Now I'm all grossed out wondering what I will find in here next!

Tink sorry but i did get a giggle!!! as i had a visual of this and you going "great" and me? i would be grossed out too but laughing at the same time hahhaaaaaaaaaa

years ago my bluetick coonhound came in the house with what i thought was a stick and said "go show daddy and uncle such and such what you have" hahhahaa while i continued making dinner. Then i heard a loud yell, seems it wasn't a stick but the bottom half of a deer leg  hahhaaaa

The fact that it was smelling makes me wonder how long it's been dead!
My guess is, since it was the bottom half, that you were smelling intestine. I've "helped" my husband gut a couple deer and it is one of the foulest smells I can imagine. Had to get the vicks out and put it under my nose to cover up the odor.

Hope that's the only critter the cat brings you! BTW how are the puppies doing?

GOLD star for Echo... that's exactly what the smell was.
The poor bunny actually looked quite fresh. I think the great feline hunter had a great night last night and just wanted to share his good fortune with me.

BLECH!
I figured this animal loving bunch would be able to relate. LOL
