Nancy, this sounds funny, but Lexie was our first mother...and when Bayley (her sister) had a litter, one pup was acting like that, very big tummy, groaning, uncomfortable...the mother did her cleaning thing...but no relief. One evening while watching television, we took the pup out and I had him on my lap...Lexie came right over and started licking and licking and licking him...she licked him for about a half hour...when she was finished, his tummy was normal and he felt good!
Does the mama lick the pups enough to get them going? If not, do you have a more experienced mother dog that you would trust to help out?
I am sorry that you are going through this...please keep us posted.
Maybe the pups are allergic to the milk, even goats milk...what about trying that liver water stuff they talk about on the breeder's forum?

Re: The are

Doodlesville said:
around 2+lbs getting between 50-75ml every 4hrs appx
hmmmm your a good mommy then lol
according to my formula 32 ml every four hours would be what is indicated!

with that said I remember the doctor telling me I was feeding my son too much formula but I never changed and he is 14 and perfect (well perfect for a 14 year old boy!!)

Oh Nancy, you are doing a wonderful job. I wish I was closer so I could help out (not that I know ANYTHING but you could show me :D )

Here is a great website the breeder has delivered over 350 litters and hand fed many.

http://www.leerburg.com/bottlefeeding.htm

He recommends 40cc every 3-4 hours for a 32 oz puppy. Total daily feeding 240 cc's.He has a recipe that he says has worked the best for him.

Puppy Recipe

11 Calories per CC

10 oz. of canned evaporated milk or goat's milk (not pasteurized cow's milk - this will cause scowers - dogs cannot drink normal cow's milk) Goats milk is by far the best to use. Wall Mart sells it.

3 oz. sterilized water (baby water or boiled water) this is not needed if using goat's milk

1 raw egg yolk

1 cup of whole yogurt (avoid skim or fat free if at all possible)

1/2 Tsp Karo Syrup or Corn Syrup (NOT HONEY !!!)

Place ingredients in a blender and blend or use a wire whisk. Be careful to not over blend and create a milk shake full of bubbles and then tube bubbles into the puppy.

Keep cool and discard leftovers after 7 days.

Warm formula to body temperature (dogs are around 101 degrees). Discard any un-used formula. This is a thick mixture - use a stomach tube to tube feed or enlarge the hole in the nipple for easy access for the pup.

And he adds other food at 4 weeks. Maybe go back to just formula mixture with yogurt for another week? Or above recipe?

And everything I read says no bath yet, just a washcloth and warm water swipe.

Hang in there, you are my hero :D

And at their weight and age I saw "feed every 6 hours"
The formula is 30cc's per pound.
So the 3 pounder needs 90cc's every 6 hours and the 3.9 pounder needs 117cc's every 6 hours.
