OMG he is adorable, so is your westie

LOVE the photo of Oliver in his food bowl.

DH slept on the floor next to AB's kennel the first few nights, after that she slept on the bed with me until DH got up in am (usualy only a 1-3 hr time span) when he left for work 2 hrs later she went in her kennel while Momma slept for a few hours and she did fine, she was worn out from playing with Daddy for 2 hrs or following him around

I found if we ignored her whining/crying she would settle down, but if you keep goign to crate it signals to them cry and Mommy or Daddy will come get me, it's tough.
Will your Westie sleep next to the crate or in the crate with Oliver?

Mary has given excellent advice .
Oliver is adorable and your pictures are awesome..............
My hubby slept beside Denver's crate when he was a baby as well and we never went near the crate when he cried unless we knew he needed to go potty or needed comforting, we gave comfort without letting him out untill he stopped crying...........

Oh, Oliver is adorable! Hope he's sleeping better. Having Cali's crate in our bedroom helped calm her a lot at night. Actually, we have two crates, cuz they're so darn big! One in the bedroom and one out in the living area.

OMG how adorable is he?!

We kept Dex's crate in our room, and every time he cried Kevin would sing to him. I nearly bit through my lip trying to keep from cracking up. It was soooo funny hearing my big macho guy sing made up lullabies to a crying puppy.

Hang in there, it gets better fast.

How many ADORABLE'S do we have!!?? Oliver is absolutely adorable! What a cutie! Enjoy!
How old?
My crate experience wasn't all that great but it's super now. It took us a good 11 days. He sleeps in the crate next to the bed.......and we just added another crate in the living room. He's finally settled in and it was well worth the wait.
I have yet to leave him alone........but it won't be long!

BUT Beau can't sleep in the crate in our bedroom anymore, only the one downstairs
in our room he'll try to dig his way out of his crate hahahaa and then he talks/growls cause peanut and max are in bed with us hahahhaaa

Our first doodle Hannah had a hard time settling down to sleep in her crate at night. I bought a couple of music to fall asleep with (classical stuff) and I would play those when we went to be. After a few nights as soon as the CD was turned on, she curled up and went to sleep

With Tanner, we just have to turn of the lights and he goes to sheep

Oliver is 8 weeks old. And our little Westie Diesel is quite fond of him already! We sometimes get worried that they are playing a bit too rough, but I think that we might just be a little overprotective!

We put the Crate right next to the bed, and we slept a little bit better last night. Still a handful of cries throughout the night, but not near as bad. I'm still a little absent minded today because of the lack of sleep!

Congrats on Oliver. Sooooooooooooooo cute. No advice on crate. Emily always slept through the night in her crate in the kitchen. She does not like it during the day though, so I leave her in the kitchen when I am not around to watch other times she just follows me around the house (the no puppy in furniture rule lasted 1 day :D :D )

Try looking at this link for a "Snuggle Puppy". We used one for Lucy and it was WONDERFUL!! She would snuggle right on top of it and there was NO whining or crying. A real help for our peace of mind. It has a little heartbeat and a rice pack we would warm up in the microwave to help her feel like she was with her momma.

Actually, just checked that site and it looks like they are sold out but maybe if you google it you can find another somewhere else or even go with a "Snuggle Kitty" instead.

Wow, now that is one cute puppy!! And he drives already!! Marley is 7 months and I have yet to even put him in the front seat yet!!!!

When crating Marley in the beginning I would lay on the floor and just pretend I was going to sleep with him and quietly talk to him. I apparently can bore anyone to sleep. He used to sigh and I followed suit and even mimicked his eyes opening and closing. Key is getting him good and tired before he gets in. Good luck woth Oliver!!
