Wondering if we should be worried and take our doodle back into the vet . . .

He was neutered last week and has been taking it easy (for him) the last week. I've tried to limit activity but he is still the same bouncy, jumpy pup that he was before so keeping him calm and on limited activity is fairly difficult.

His incision looks nice and clean but there is a "fresh blood" look about it. He's a jumpy one so getting him to give me much time to look down there is difficult. Should I be concerned or does it take a while for the incision to heal up? I figured after a week it would look more healed over. He's not showing any signs of distress (no loss of appetite etc.) and he has worn his collar continually since the operation.

Thanks!

We had 2 dogs neutered and they were back to running around like crazy after 3-4 days. I never noticed a blood look at the incision though. Can you call your vet tomorrow to ask? I really think after a week they would be fully healed, but a phone call never hurts.

I agree, not to worry you, but if your pup is so bouncy, he could have pulled stitches, either internally or externally. Blood after a week is unusual, I think, and I'd want to be sure they checked it out.
(The vet may not charge you...if they do, ask them to please consider it a followup on the surgery you have already paid for.)

Better safe than sorry... I'd call to be sure.

Hope your Doodle recovers quickly! :D

Let us know!! Hoping all is well.....I'll be going through this in 3 weeks and I know how nervous I'll be. I'd also be back at the vet!

Let us know how it goes. Dex has a HUGE incision from his surgery last week - we took him to get it looked at on Tues and the vet said it was fine. There was a part of it that had a bruised look to it (sounds like what Annie is describing) and I asked and the vet said it's quite normal.
