Great news. For sure Miko will finish her classes either Top dog or runner up in class!!! Ok, there's only her and 1 other dog. I couldn't hear her when she said what breed, But he'll top out at 130#!! Yowza, you should see his paws! He's only 14 weeks old and 25#. It's a real basics class that I wanted mostly for socialization, but we'll surely get some 1 on 1 training. I'm kind of disappointed, but I know the trainer at Petsmart, I'd feel bad dropping her class. The size of the class is due to some bad word of mouth from a trainer that was "let go"! We mostly worked on name recognition and "gotcha". Grabbing at the collar in case they get loose. Played around after class with a little sit. So far, she's not getting what I'm asking. Did some with her and Jonah when we got home...HE'S STILL GOT IT!! She's still clueless, or maybe holding out on me?? They're trying to get me to "clicker" train, but I'm working more for praise....plus I think I'm kinda "clicker disabled"!

I know that every time in the beginning, when
I thought Denver was not "getting it" I was happily
surprised when I could see later on that he was. Miko will do great.
I am not a fan of clicker training, just not my preference(so nobody jump on me for saying that) We used treats in the beginning and now more praise. What ever works for you and I know you will do wonderfully.

Congrats Miko on Training School!!!

Hey I like those odds...Miko's status is set...1st or 2nd in her class! And without learning sit! Good girl, Miko!
I have a dog that knows sit, she is just too stubborn to do it. When I give the sit command, she stands so firmly I wouldn't be able to knock her knees enough to bend, if I wanted to! LOL (Ann Marie...this would be my Goldendoodle, Rosie!) But, she will shove her way through a crowd and put her sweet face in my lap, looking up at me without moving her head...you know...the "eye thing"...and I melt. She is a smart one!
She has actually learned to sit and WILL if she is going to get a treat, but forget it any other time.
This is girl came to us on the exact same day that our first litter was born, so she really had no training for such a long time...and for her lack of training, she is a sweetheart.
Oh...sorry...got off topic again, dind't I?

I just tried Annmarie's suggestion from the other post and BAM, she sat, then BAM, Jonah knocked me on my butt!! I think we'll do our training alone, as soon as his staples come out and I can let him out in the yard by himself! He'll sit on command and down, but if she's there, it's sit...down...UP....JUMP.....TACKLE!!!

haha...oh poor gene!!

Part of Dexter's lovely time in adolescence has included jumping up much more than usual. In addition, he humped my husband's leg last night

Gene - we did Petsmart's puppy beginner and advanced classes - the puppy beginner was very slow at first IMO. I thought it got much better as it went on.

A class update. We had our second class this evening. We spent a lot of time socializing in the store. Miko was a shy little star. Everyone was amazed at her beauty (of course) and how calm she is (didn't want to tell them terrified is more like it). Heard all the usual comments...never saw one in person before...oh THAT'S what they look like...etc.

We worked on sit and wait. Wait she does great...learned that at home already. Sit is a different story. After 20 minutes and help from the other class member, she sat. She WILL NOT let you push down her rump!! The trainer said she's never seen a dog more stubborn. I belive it's the shyness still...and a little stubborn like me! Then it was like a light bulb went off in her head. She still doesn't like it...she moves back and forth before sitting, but I got her to sit about 15 times!! Now we just have to practice!

And, just so you don't feel too left out...here is my stubborn girl trying to get my sleeping husband off his duff to play ball!

Just a little kiss might wake him up...

Okay, maybe if he see's my muddy paws, he'll get up...

I am so thrilled!! We were out in the yard and I thought I'd try the SIT with Miko....SHE DID IT!!  3 times with no treat more than praise!! Came back in the house and she did it 5 more times. I treated her and praised her. She still backs up and shakes her rump first, but she is sitting!! Oh, and Jonah expected a treat for him for sitting. I made him sit and down for his....jeez, who is he trying to kid?? I knew it was going to be a good day!!!

hahahaha, Ann Marie, I think that Rosie and Peanut are very much alike!
(I love the expression too. She has the greatest, most theatrical mannerisms...what a cutie!)

I am so happy for Gene's success with Miko! That is a big deal!!
