I have just purchased a labradoodle from a pet outlet here in New Mexico. He is a wonderful dog and seems to be the smartest puppy I've ever had. (I have owned 4 Siberian Huskies, a greyhound mix, a Great Dane, and 2 Labs). The paperwork lists a Richard peck of Mountainburg, Arkansas as the breeder, but I have not been able to find any contact info for Mr. Peck. I would like to find out more about this pup... F1? F6?... Any information would be appreciated. Can someone help me?

Hi Chas, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your new addition. I hope that the pain of losing your life long pet will be eased by his doodle ways.
I find myself in a very difficult position, I honestly did not want to respond to your post because I don't want to sound like I am preaching or even disapproving of your purchase. In fact, I am so grateful that you found this pup and gave him a loving home...but...I feel that this needs to be said, for all of those people reading the forums and trying to decide what to do...
I doubt you will ever find the breeder. Your pup was, most likely, the product of a puppy mill or a back yard breeder. The "breeder" (and I use that term loosly) sold your pup to a puppy broker, probably at a very young age, and your pup was shipped from its home in conditions that you would not want to know about...these pups are then placed in pet stores, cleaned up and put in windows to attract loving people like yourself. But when the pup ages and becomes unsaleable...and well, many are killed because they were not cute any more.
These breeders have no business license, no business entity. They don't care about their dogs or their puppies, they are only trying to find the cheapest way to earn a few bucks so they breed their dogs, literally, to death.
If you find your breeder...I will be very, very sruprised...but also if you do, don't expect to find a sweet, loving home environmet. In fact...I don't think you really would want to know.
Just love your pup with all of your heart and you can make up for what has probalby been a horrific first few months.
I am sincerely glad that you have ths pup, and that you and the pup are so happy together. It is a hopeful and happy ending.

·Welcome Chas! I adopted my Bella from a rescue group that I later found out rescued puppies from puppy mills. I thought a local breeder just could not sell the pups for some reason and had asked the rescue group to place them . I would not have purchased/adopted her if I knew that was the case because I feel like the puppy mill rescuers (however well meaning they might be) help keep the mills in business, HOWEVER, I now have Bella, she is wonderful and I love her dearly!
Anyway, I think I found your breeder, but he is actually a broker, NOT a breeder according to the USDA registry. A broker will sell the licensed commercial breeders puppies to pet stores, he is an intermediary. Here is the address and kennel name I found, but you may not find out any more information. The USDA licensed breeders are basically licensed to breed puppies as livestock, for profit, in great numbers(what is also commonly termed a 'puppy mill'). The broker then purchases a 'block' of puppies from the breeder to sell to the pet shops. I guess it is possible the broker or broker relative (hence the name Rick) bred your puppy and sold it to the pet store and your puppy never was at this kennel, but that seems unlikely.

Enjoy your puppy, have him checked out by a vet and I would highly recommend that you have his hips xrayed when you take him in to be neutered even if there are no symptoms. Even severe hip dysplasia often does not cause symptoms until age 6 or 7 and by then your warranty will be up.

Linda and everyone else, thanks for the help, the warm welcome and the support. I think this little guy is going to work out fine. It doesn't matter to me what type of doodle he is, F1, F1B, whatever. These things mean nothing to me beyond basic curiosity. Except for my first Siberian, none of my dogs were good breed "conformation" type dogs. I value personality and intelligence over appearance in my dogs. I'm just looking for a good stable companion dog.

Please don't mind us throwing around "labradoodle terms". F1 and F1b are different generations of Labradoodle. A F1 is a first cross labradoodle, so one parent was lab and one parent was poodle. A F1b is a second generation labradoodle. One parent is a labradoodle (a F1- so lab and poodle grandparents) and typically they are backcrossed to one of the parent breeds, so the other parent is either a lab or a poodle. Typically its a poodle, because most people need the less shedding prediction of the poodle back cross.ChasP505 said:

Although I know you're not focused on that, some of the generations need more grooming than others. Which you might have experience with given your past dogs. But if he's labby, obviously not that much worry needs to go into making sure he's brushed so that he doesn't develop mats. But, if he's not, then you need to be watchful of mats.
Congrats on adding a labradoodle to your family. I commend you on giving him a great home.... I just wish there wasn't the need for Jac's post.... It's unfortunate that puppy mills exist. But, it is great when people take the puppies in and give them a much better life than they're used to!

Ah, he is a cutie pie...F1 is my favorite! I love the Disney Dog look and they are such a great cross between both parents. Congratulations!
