many breeders ship
I would not limit your search to just your local area. You may find that doing so will limit your choices to breeders who do not test or do not have the best possible puppy for your family. This doesn't mean that breeders in your area are bad (I dont even know if there are any in your area).
Most breeders ship. We properly socialize our puppies with their crate so that when they are shipped it is not a new and unfamiliar place. They usually sleep during the flight.
Good luck in your search! And always ask for proof of OFA, CERF, PRA, vWD and thyroid testing.
