email sent to Nike World HQ. (I also intend to send a hard copy, as well as a phone call to anyone as high up as I can get... )

I am writing to officially protest Michael Vick's association with Nike. (see http://www.cbs46.com/sports/13532586/detail.html).

His participation in this cruelty is repugnant. Having been a long-time consumer of Nike products, I am appalled that his behavior has gone without public denouncement, and severance of business relationship. Is Nike THAT oblivions to humanity and ever-focused on the Almighty Buck?

Shame on you.

I will never again purchase a Nike product. I will also tell anyone who will listen to not purchase Nike products and the reason why. Thirdly, I will copy the above-noted link, and forward it to my entire email contact list, with instructions that THEY forward it as well. Do the math; believe me it will get around.

If action is taken, and Michael Vick is relieved of his Nike endorsement, I will send a follow-up email to my contacts stating such.

Sincerely,

Lynn B.

Also, here is the email I have sent to my contacts. I know it's not impartial per se, but I tried to be balanced:

This is not a forwarded message...I am the originator.

PLEASE read the article in the link below. Nike Inc. REFUSES to terminate
relations with Michael Vick, the Atlanta Falcons QB who is alleged to have
ties to dogfighting.

Statement from Nike:

"There is no change in the status of the agreement between Nike and football
player Michael Vick," Stoyer said. "He is rightfully presumed innocent and
afforded the same due process as any citizen, rather than be tried in the
court of public opinion. Nike will continue to monitor the situation, but
has nothing further to say at this time."

I respect due process. However:

"During an April 25 raid on a Virginia home owned by Vick, authorities
seized 66 animals, most of them pit bulls, and equipment that suggested they
were being used in a dogfighting operation."

The article alleges that this was a home that Vicks rarely visited.
Consider this:

"At the very least, Mr. Vick was not vigilant enough and an unacceptable
situation developed on one of his properties," Pacelle wrote. "It remains to
be seen whether all the personal accounts and information about his role in
dogfighting are sufficient to connect Mr. Vick to the alleged dogfighting
operation."

I acknowledge that I may be putting the cart before the horse on this, but I
am repulsed, and infuriated. I have a pit in my stomach. As such, I will
never purchase another Nike product, pending a full acquittal of Michael
Vick.
I just can't do it.

Please forward this to your email contacts if your own personal barometer
tells you it's the right thing to do. This is just me talking, but I am
heartbroken about this cruelty associated with such a public figure.

Thanks for reading.

I cannot BELIEVE NIKE would have him endorse any product after what was just in the papers!!!!
personally i don't think he should be allowed to play football anymore either. Funny how here in the US so many criminals can play professional sports and endorse products. makes me sick!

The NFL has a code of conduct the players & coaches have to adhere to - I didn't say anything before but I had a feeling they'd do something :) Michael Vick has been ordered to stay away from training camp! Woohoo!!!!

Michael Vick

The actions Michael Vick has been accused of are really unforgivable. There is no excuse for having dogs fight in the 21st century. I appreciate that dogs were armed with razor sharp knives for colars and sent into battle against the Romans to kill and injure their horses hense the phrase "let loose the dogs of war", but I would hope that society has evolved to the point that that conduct would not be tolerated even by the Bush administration.

I really don't case for Pit Bulls. I personally think they are bred to be mean attack dogs. But that really doesn't matter. I think dog fighting is an inexcusable method of gambling. The point is that no animal should be tortured. To wet a dog down and electrocute him for losing a dog fight is outrageous conduct.

Everyone who reads this site is a dog lover and I know I am preaching to the choir. So, ask your friends that do not have dogs what they think of Vick's alleged behavior. Ask friends who don't like dogs (do you really have any friends that don't like dogs?) what they think of Vick's alleged behavior. I would be interested to see if there are any favorable comments to this situation other than "he is presumed innocent until the contrary is proven beyond a reasonable doubt." But for purposes of deploring the conduct, we do not need a "beyond a reasonable doubt standard" we only need to know whether or not he did it.
