We have an 11 week old doodle with a fleece coat.
How often can she be brushed?

How frequent can she be bathed with puppy shampoo?
I know you're not supposed to do too many baths as it will dry out their skin. Is once a week too often? What is the right amount? Every other week? Monthly?

Thanks for your input.

i bath Jonah about every 6 weeks or so, unless he really gets into something. i brush him 2 or 3 times a week. it keeps the knots down, plus it's good old fashioned quality time if you mix it up with play.

Once a week brushing is good for bonding time it is important to check over the whole body from head to tail. This way you will get a good idea of the body and any changes that might occur, also check for fleas, ticks, grass seed, anything you don't want on the puppy or dog. Don't forget to check the ears and clean them, use 1 part white vinegar with 3 parts water, it's cheap and kils bacteria, just dip a cotton ball and squeeze out excess then take a dry one and wipe the ear dry.

Don't bathe to often this will dry the skin and cause itching and excess oil to produce. Always use dog shampoo and conditioner never use people shampoo or conditioner.

Hi Leslie, I have always been told never to use human grade shampoo but I never asked why  I just took it to be that human shampoo was too drying for our four legged pals. You would think that baby shampoo would be ok but I really don't have an answer to that. Sorry :)

LOL I was curious too! I read the ingredients in dog shampoo then in my fancy Pureology Shampoo and decided MY shampoo was way better so I use Pureology on my dogs!! It has organic botanicals as the first several ingredients along with shea butter and lots of fun things! :) I use the hydrate shampoo and it is salt and sulfate free and has aromotherapy - much needed on a dog (well not usually but it sure smells good!! )

Actually, i read a training book the other week....sorry, forgot the authors name. he's the guy that tells you to throw things at your dog for attention and " a little tap on the rump" never hurts....but i digress. he is a also big into the raw diet and he also says you can use human shampoo because if yiou think about it, most of it was "tested" on dogs anyway. i still go for the dog shampoos, i think mostly because of the smell
