hi, I get asked that a lot, and sometimes I wonder why, myself! However, when I transitioned from Labs to Doodles (it's a long story so I'll leave it at that) I told some clients some things that were said out of my own ignorance and inexperience with doodles. So now, when someone approaches me about being mentored into breeding I tell them to be honest about their experience: it should be reflected in their price and in how they speak to clients or potential clients. Inexperience is nothing to be ashamed of, but it also can mean that not everything is going to be clear or accurate, that an inexperienced breeder says.

does that help you at all?

I don't think that a new breeder should be avoided at all! I just think that it's one factor. If they are trying to be responsible and honorable it's great. They'll be even better after about 3 more litters.

Ya know what? I'm taking the topic and veering off a bit, but if a doodle-owner is one that wants to have that "one litter...for my kids... cuz we want one of her puppies.....etc etc. then the buyer of those puppies really has no support if something shows up later do they?

I don't see this as the same as inexperience, with a breeder who's committed to making their name and sticking around, but it is just now occurring to me that the 1-litter breeders could be a problem for the people buying those puppies farther down the road.
