I'm home from the hospital. The surgery went fine. My overnight stay was actually fun! I feel so bad for the hospital staff (non-nurses). They work such awful hours and are probably paid so little . . . They just crave attention and some words of encouragement. I had one little lady sneaking in to watch American Idol with me! And I made it a point to have personal (not too personal!) conversations with all of them. Each and every one of them, assistants to nurses, were great! Pays off too! I had cokes and cups of ice delivered to me at midnight-and before and after for that matter! The chaplain stopped in for a routine visit. I was very complimentary of all of the staff and the services and I told him that I truly appreciated their hard work. What was kind of sad was that he seemed taken aback by my overall reactions and said that I made his day! But it was true-I spent the night at the hospital and it was fun!! Don't get me wrong I am glad to be home! Oh, and the meds are 'OK', too . . . !! Now the fun part-2 months of no weight at all on my ankle and then another 30 days before I get the boot off . . .

Good luck Diane, I'm glad that part is behind you.
Hopefully you'll heal quickly and feel a lot better very soon.
That's great that you made a point to give the staff some pats on the back. There aren't a lot of "easy" jobs in health care and they're often seeing people who aren't at their best so forget to say thank you. I"m sure you were a breath of fresh air for them.

Well done!

Welcome home Diane!! So glad it all went well. The hard part starts now. Dexter, be good and kind to your Mommy. The more she rests and does what the doctor says now, the sooner she'll be able to run and play with you!!

Maybe I am overlooking it but I read that you caught your heel...did you tumble down the stairs or did you twist it to break it......anyway, nice to hear that you are home where Dakota help in your recovery.

Nope--nothing! Didn't twist, didn't fall, Nothing! Just felt a surge of pain when I clipped my heel and sat down and scooted my self back up the stairs.

Everone's humor is greatly appreciated!!! 'Heal', indeed!!!!

Ahhhh .... pain meds .....

Where chew toys are free and poo disappears

Suddenly some pup is there at the back gate
Dakota, to calm all your fears"

... glad you are home and pointing toward recovery! Your kind heart is one that can't be down and out for long. Your kudos about the staff at the hospital were wonderful ... there are so many folks out there doing the jobs we don't want to do and we should always say thanks and appreciate their efforts.

Keep your wonderful Joie de vrie (sic) in tact and ...

wishing you a speedy recovery. i broke my ankle (fell down the stairs  ) and was on crutches for 6 weeks. people kept asking me what happened. "street fighting!" i'd say. "you should see the other guy!"
