I suggest getting sticky window ornaments....the ones people put up at halloween and christmas that stick on with static.
You could get a bunch so that it looks like a solid surface and harder to see through.
They will realise that it isn't open space and it may stop them.
Or even tape some cardboard up on it for a while until the habit is broken.
It may look ugly for a while, but I think it's worth it.
