I have a question about ordering Heargard and Frontline over the phone or internet. The ads on TV say it is considerably less expensive than buying these items from your vet. My vet has a sign posted in his office stating that he does not recommend buying these "inferior" products. Is there really a difference between the product advertised on TV and what I'm buying from my vet, or is he just saying that because he would lose money?

I am afraid to buy the Frontline and Heartgard from the internet because I saw a program on Dateline about all of the counterfeit drugs out there for people. The packaging and pills, etc. look exactly like the real thing. I told the receptionist at my vet about my concerns and she said the flea product company will only guarantee the product if it was bought at the vet. She said there was alot of counterfeit pet supplies too. So, I didn't want to spend less money and then have it actually be a placebo. But, since Frontline is so expensive and I have three animals to treat, I bought some over the counter Hartz flea product at the pet store. There was a comparison list of several brands of flea products and it said that this Hartz product did everything that the Frontline Plus did so I decided to give it a try. I just put it on them the other day so, I don't know how well it is going to work. Plus, it's the time of year when we have less fleas, so I might not know for sure until next summer. It was only around $10 per animal compared to the $50 per animal I was paying at the vet.

I have to say, I had not seen or heard the reports you mention, but I don't doubt it. I buy both my Dog and cat's meds online and neither of them have fleas or ticks and they spend the majority of their time outside AND we live in a wooded area....The only thing is, I buy from 1800petmeds and I don't find them to be CONSIDERABLY less money. Maybe 5 or so dollars less. I have seen sites where they are 1/2 the price and I was going to give them a try, but think I will stick to what I know works since reading this post...Leslie
