I have a 3 year old doodle - River - he's amazing - smart, funny - well behaved - pefect in every way - except for the stairs - he will not go up and down the stairs in my building - and as it would happen - I am on the 5th floor - so when the elevator is broken - I have to haul his 80 pound BUTT up and down 5 flights - any suggestions - I've tried everything - food, treats, doing it with him, leaving him there....nada......I don't think even Cesar can help with this one -

Hi, welcome to the forum!
The number of stairs may be frightening to him. Often dogs are intimidated by so may steps...but you might want to check with your vet to be sure that there is no problem with his hips or elbows.
It may be painful for him...and I'd want to rule that out before trying other things for training.
I hope that it all checks out and if so, then it will probably just take lots of patience and taking the steps a little at a time. Maybe finding outdoor steps that aren't enclosed in walls...maybe it is the enclosure that frightens him.
Good luck!

the steps

I should have mentioned that he is fine with all out door stairs - just the ones inside of my apartment building - and actualy he does have slight hip displasia in the right rear and a small "something" in his front left shoulder - but trust me - when I throw a baseball that dog has NO ailments! I think it might be that the stairs are very slippery so he goes up on his toes and then is so scared he gets frozen fright. Guess I have to buy a house...lol...thanks for the feedback though - I thought maybe it was a "doodle" thing....
