I have been putting off the inevitable, getting Cola spayed. My vet strongly suggests it; they also are affiliated with the shelter next door. I can see their point. I hesitate because she is a beautiful dog (blonde, very curly, almost poodle appearance) and her temperament is outstanding. I can take a steak bone out of her mouth and she will let go and just look at me dumbfounded but no growl or trying to get it back. Part of me would really like for her to have puppies with a poodle. I have no experience with puppies other than when I was growing up on a farm, I know it is very different now. I just have not been able to bring myself to spay her. I’m I wrong for wanting her to have puppies? Is it too irresponsible?

Good morning t-mac,

It is not for me to say whether your decision is responsible or not...but I can tell you that breeding is not easy and is extremely expensive!

There is so much to consider before you breed...please don't breed her on the first heat. If you do decide to, breed on the second at the very least, she should be mature enough to be a mother.

Take the time to look into what is required for a responsible breeding program.

I'll be glad to give you more information, if you would like, just send a private message to me and I'll tell you more.

I sent one to you instead! :D (Look at the top of this page, one of the options is for "You have ___ new messages" and click on that.
When you want to send one, notice at the bottom of my post there is a button for PM or Private Message. Click on that and you can write directly to the person in the forum.
