I agree with Linda. There has to be a lot of trust between the two because the dog is very valuable...so I'd insist on a very tight contract with all of the "what ifs" included. But I do go much further than most if the home is right. We don't have many people interested in guardianship close by me so if I can find a good home within a day's travel I will consider it.

dittos here....there are several variables. Distance has to be a factor, in addition to trust and also veterinary care.

Bottom line is that decision is up to the individual breeder, since they are the one taking the biggest risk. There is a certain amount of inconvenience to the guardian home, in the breeding absences, or stud services, etc. but the breeder has to be comfortable that their dog, who is also an investment is well-cared for, and in a safe place.

I agree with the safety and health of a dog if it is to far away it's hard to check in very often that is where the trust comes in and the right families.

I've always thought the best guardians are people who have purchased from you before. First you already have that relationship and trust then you just work out the rest. Not that others aren't good I'll consider anyone that is interested and they pass our approval I even go to their homes and visit before ever approving a family the home says a lot about people for me.
