You shouldn't take the sample yourself - just bring the dog in to the vet and they will take the sample. It has to be done in a sterile way, and only vets can do that. Otherwise there's no way of guarantueing whatever germs they find didnt get in there while you were collecting the sample.

Trust me, a dog with UTI (mine has had two now) will pee any chance he/she gets and vets know how to do this properly...
