Dream Job

I have belonged to a number of forums on and off over the years. I have made some great friends as a result. I thought it would be fun to learn a little bit more about each other. So I am posing a question to everyone. Do you have your dream job? I understand people like privacy so you don't need to name your occupation. If you aren't doing your dream career, what is it?

I don't have my dream job but I am helping my husband work toward his. In '09 he was laid off. He started his own public speaking group in hopes of making a living at it. He ended up getting a new job but still works at his public speaking in his spare time. I am his scheduler, secretary, proof-reader and sounding board. I get to work in my pajamas everyday so it can't be all that bad. ;) I also do volunteer work within my community with several different organizations and through the school district.

Though the years my dream job has changed. Currently, I just started writing a book of family stories in my spare time. I come from an incredibly small family and many members have died young so I thought it was important to record these for future generations. I would also like to write a book of short comedic true stories, that happen to be from my everyday life. I had quite a wealth of stories (has your neighbor ever asked you to freeze her cat?) before we got Shadow. I have a feeling my material is going to grow exponentially. I don't expect to make a living at this. I'm doing it for my own happiness. :D

What a fun idea for a discussion!

I am still trying to decide what I want to be when I grow up. I was an electronics specialist for Sony, then I was a teacher, I was a corporate computer trainer, then I opened my own business as a home stager (then the real estate market crashed). I thought when my kids were old enough I'd go back to teaching. Sadly, now that I'm ready to go back there are no teaching jobs. Teachers are loosing their jobs left and right. As far as employment is concerned I don't seem to be in the right place at the right time. Finally, I just got a dog and go hiking every day.

My passion is photography but it is next to impossible to make a career out of it. Like writing it is a great hobby to have. I am yet to get a nice photo of Charlie though. She just looks like a brown blob in photos. She is like that gorgeous model that is unphotogenic.

Here are some of my favorite subjects: water drops and tiny train people

Awesome photos! Before children I was a portrait photographer. I enjoyed the taking pictures aspect but not the having to sell the pictures. The company I worked for, which doesn't exist anymore, wanted everyone on staff to high pressure sell the photos. Basically everyone you came in contact with was hounding you for money and I couldn't stand doing it. Unfortunately/Fortunately, I got pregnant and got extremely sick. They couldn't figure out what was wrong and even sent my blood to the CDC. I spent most of that pregnancy in bed and was unable to work. There was a big management shift and most of the employees chose to follow a certain manager so I was lost in the shuffle, which worked out because I got the Christmas bonus that I had earned (set aside commission to force you to work through Christmas) and desperately needed. I love to take pictures for I just do it for fun now.

Do I have my dream job? Not even close.

I studied Law Enforcement in college with a specialty in Crime Scene Investigations. The only problem with our small southern town is there are currently 11 positions in that particular field and the good old boy system take precedence SO I am currently a government employee. This started out as a part-time job while I waited to get my dream job AND 23 years later I'm still here. HA HA HA

Funny, photography is my hobby but I don't think I could ever do it as a profession. I am entirely too anal retentive and I would totally and completely piss myself off on a daily basis.

Moe, I have done some staging on the side as a favor for some friends that are realtors but never for money, just for fun. I LOVE staging and that would be in the running for my dream job. But, to be totally and completely honest, my dream job would be a stay-at-home mom. Fine, my kids are in college now so how about a stay-at-home wife. Friends always say how bored they would be but I'm thinkin'.....yea, not so much!
