 On Wednesday we had to put our miniature schnuazer down. He was 12 and had inflamed bowel disease, kidney trouble and had doggy dimensia. After being bitten by him (unprovoked just trying to comfort) three times and really did a number on my finger, it was time. Well Digby knew something was up the night before, he wasn't his usual romping, WIDE open self. We took Mercury to the vet in a crate because I didn't want to get bit. After all was done, I brought the crate home and put it in the garage then went inside to take Digby out for a potty break. The first thing he did was go down and made a B line to the crate he smelled it for a few minutes then we went outside, he did his business and put his nose in the air and started whining. Then nose to the ground looking for smells of mercury. We went inside and Digby was very mellow and got a toy to play with threw it up in the air and just watched in land and fell asleep.

Forward to the next day, he was a little better and again did the same thing as the day before. He whined like crazy outside, and goes to where mercury used to sleep and just sniffs to no end. So yesterday we went to Petsmart for his food and there was a gorilla fleece with a sound card inside that makes monkey sounds I thought that would cheer him up. We got home and now it is his new security blanket. It is rather annoying because he has figured how to get the thing making monkey sounds and just can't be without it.

I took him with me to go get take out for dinner and he had a good time (loves to ride in the minivan) we went to Ruby Tuesday's and they have the driveup, the waitress was just blown away at how cute he is  he was licking her hand and just was wagging his tail!

Just have to add, we took Digby to Petsmart last week, and there were lots of people curious as to what breed and he got lots of attention. We were waiting in line, there was a lady with a kid on a leash ahead of us. I was turned around talking with the lady behind me, and out of no where, the little kid grabbed Digby's tail and pulled on it. He turned is head and just looked at the kid and looked at me, :? I told him good boy and turned him away from the little kid. The lady was very embarrassed and was sorry Digby just stood there and looked at the kid, then looked up at me like "what was that all about"? It was a good lesson, he didn't really flinch, but at least I know he didn't nip. Watch out for people with kids on leashes, my son who is nine asked why he was on a leash!!

Thank for letting me share, I still haven't been able to post a picture, I have to keep trying LOL

BTW I love this little emoticons! :D

Thank you for all the kind words on the loss of our schnauzer.

The leash thing was a backpack type thing and there was a harness attached to it. The mom had the harness attached to her wrist. I have never seen anything like it. The little kid was all over the place though, I can see why he was "restrained" for fear of getting lost or whatever.
