Hi all! Just a quick question out of curiosity.

Whenever I get in the pool, Rowdie flips out. He will NOT stop barking and gets aggressive and panics. When I walk over towards the stairs he leaps into the pool from them and comes up to me and puts his paws on my shoulders and just stands there, kissing my face -it's adorable :)

So why do you think he barks so much when I'm in the pool? Is he jealous because he wants to come in as well, or do you think he wigs out because he's not by my side and wants to protect me? Just curious...

I have the same problem! I keep the dogs penned up on the deck while I'm in the pool and they keep running back and forth while I'm swimming. We don't have steps into the pool just ladders so we don't allow them to get in. They have a pond for that!!!

I think he probably wants to be with you (maybe he wants to protect you too). I find that our dogs get upset if they can see us, but are physically separated (by a fence, door, etc). Dexter and Kirby did the same thing to us on Sat when we tried to swim and have them just be in the yard.

we used to tease my poodles growing up - we would go underwater and they would flip out!!!!!!! mother always said they thought were drowning. the one would jump in and try to pull us by the hair to "rescue" us! we would leave them in the house if we wanted to swim in peace :)

max once slipped in the pool and i had to yank him up from underwater. I think that he wanted to be with us and they don't understand us "swimming"
I LOV using lifevests (Petsmart has them for $30) and then doodles and my family can enjoy being in the water. I also find once they have their fill of swimming , Max and peanut are content to lay and/or play on the deck
