I know that feeling - Banjo likes the hard plastic too, and just eats away at the mat we gave her, but I personally cannot stand the noise of that plastic bottom. It's so loud when she scratches or moves around. Life is much more quiet, even if we have to clean up some foam from time to time

Perhaps you should trying to put the mat UNDER the plastic bottom... will take care of the sound fo you and Banjo can sleep on the cool, hard plastic he loves
