We had Hershey at the kennel for the weekend. When I went to pick her up i thought she looked a little smaller, maybe with all the running and playing she lost a pound or two. She was super tired, but very happy. When my wife came home she exclaimed "DID YOU SHAVE OUR DOG!!!". I of course said no, and when we looked closer, all her hair was 2" long, uniform all over her body. Before the weekend it was a little wavy, 4"-6" long, depending where it was. OMG, the kennel shaved our puppy!!!

I have called and talked with them, and they said no they didnt. I 100% beleive them, they are very nice honest people. They told me that at this time of year their labradors would shed the longer hairs in their coat and the shorter hairs would beef up for winter. Maybe the lab in Hershey is doing this. Is this something that occurs? She is 16 months old, so i dont think she is blowing a puppy coat or anything. She did spend 4 days in an exercise pen rough housing with a very energetic black lab. Is it possible she rubbbed all her long hair off on the grass? I'll post some picks when i get home after dinner for you all to see.

without seeing pics its hard to say

did you bathe your dog recently too?
max is labby looking and sometimes his hair lays flatter and more uniform looking and then all of a sudden may wave back up and so on
it's been doing this since he was 4mos old

Here are some pics of the before kennel Hershey, not the best but you can see some length in her chest and back.

And the current Hershey

Looking at her, she used to have longer hair, thats the most obvious, but she also used to have some white hairs in her coat and they seem to be gone and their is much more of a red hint in the sunlight than there used to be. it also feels less like hair and is much softer......weird.

I dont notice a difference between pics 2 and 3 In pic one she looks like she is wet and has some waves sticking up so hard to tell - Annabelle looks different wet, also looks different after she has been brushed -

maybe they gave her a bath and brushing - is she an F1, does she shed? if she had a bath and heavy brushing, maybe she was doing a lot of shedding and they brushed out her undercoat?

She still looks adorable

There is a definite difference between 1st pic and 3rd pic

and i have to agree, if they bathed and brushed and used shedding rake that could make a big difference ....i used shedding rake in past when max was blowing his coat and/or got into heavy shedding.

either way , your doodle has shorter hair and i guess the only thing i can say is "hair grows back".

And maybe you could ask nicely if someone used a shedding rake or furminator on her???? which would take out excess hair etc
I'd approach them in a soft manner so they don't get scared? or have your wife call ....or you could just go there with a before and after pic to show them?
I know i'd be curious too

I agree. It looks like maybe they used a Mars Coat King on her. When I was comparing the pictures I was like, "Oh my, what are those white growths all over her legs?" ...Teehee, snowballs!
She looks skinnier, but still beautiful!

GEE!
what a mystery! I wonder if Shannon is on to something - did they bathe/brush your Hershey?

Has anyone else mentioned the stress of being left in a kennel causing hair loss? I don't mean to worry you but that is one effect of a dog that is stressed. It sounds like Hershey had a really good time, but could the first day of adjustment have caused more shedding than normal?

I'm no expert, it's just an idea. It would happen to our Labs when I had babies and "neglected" our girls, so it doesn't even take a kennel for it to happen, sometimes.
