HI

I am wondering something. Max has been on Nutro puppy food mixed with 1/3 sensitive tummy mixture for 7weeks now and was doing great.
He's had a few soft stools earlier this week but then firm again. so I thought is was from eating fuzz and Toliet paper.

This morning poor Max did try to wake me up around4am but I thought he wanted to play...yeah,I told him" Max honey go to sleep.
WEll at 6am MAX managed to get me wide awake.

He had had bad diarhhea in my bedroom.. I felt so bad I didn't wake up. I have about an hour's worth of clean up.

Max is acting normal...he did have SBD's for the past 3 nights.
I am taking a sample to the vet this morning on my way to work.

Is it time for adult food??? Or Just Nutro only?
I am cutting out his treats as process of elimination he gets NO table food. I am also checking plants for teeth marks. He's acting normal, eats drinks , steals socks, paper napkins, fuzz from toys.

Max is 6mos old....anyone else go thru this???

And YES i am worried as Max is my "baby"

We all worry when our babies get sick and that's normal, I wouldn't put him on adult food yet I would wait at least until he is 9 months or so.

The loose stools could be from the treats some are pretty rich, he could have eaten something outside also. I would have the stool looked at by the Vet and keep an eye on him. There are a lot of things that can cause loose stools.

They're INNOVA evo dog treats.

ONLY ones he gets but I just realized now my son was working with him last night and I wonder how many Max got? ohhhh.

He ususally gets ONE when we come in from a walk.

Don't worry AnnMarie, Max's stool sample will usually indicate if there are parasites, which is always a possibility and easy to treat and if he has been drinking standing water or even walking through infected areas he cold have Giriada (sp?) which is also treatable, a little tougher than the parasites but still not a lot to worry about.
Until he sees the vet, I'd give him a little PeptoBismol or Kaopectate...I prefer the Pepto. It usually does the trick first dose.
You can also include some canned pumpkin (not pie mix) into his food...and since the mess was pretty liquid (I assume) you could even switch him to a bland diet.
My puppies (all 9!) went through a very scary time of watery poopies...no worms, so we just decided the food was too rich (I was trying a new brand) I boiled chicken with rice until the rice was very, very soft, cut up the chicken, added canned pumpkin, gave a dose of Pepto after each runny poop and within a day it was gone. I kept feeding the bland diet and slowly incorporated their regular food back.

HI everyone...just home from work and I talked to the vet

Max has a bad case of worms and is going in tomorrow morning to weigh him and get his 1st dose of medicine. Then in 3weeks he'll get another dose. Then they want him on heartworm medicine.
He has roundworms.

Anyway, bought more Nature's Miracle and just got done cleaning bedroom a 2nd time and making sure everyone in the house practices good hygeine.

I do appreciate all the advice and concern.
Max is still in doodle run mode right now hahahhaha active as can be!!
HIs stools are firming up since 3:30pm now ...it goes back and forth.
Tomorrow I will remember pepto bismal.

not sure everyones feeling on this, but I prefer to pay for a heartworm test everyyear rather than give the medicine. It is my understanding its not a preventative it only kills existing heartworms. If none exist its poisin in your pup for no reason.

just food for thought ;)

funny you should say that movistar...i was going to talk to my breeder about heartworm medicine as he vet "suggested it" AFTER the worms are gone.
max is getting Worming meds tomorrow and again in 3 weeks.

I am going to do more research after I also get more to go on.

Well, I don't know...I do get them tested, but at the same time, if I ever found out that my dog had those awful worms crawling in and out of his/her heart, I would never get over it! Wouldn't the worm do damage by the time you had a positive test?

Thanks, Micky, I always am happy to read and learn so I appreciate your posting this link. Actually, Dr. Dodds has a practice about an hour from here and one of the vets in our office is a holistic vet, so I am not pooh-poohing the idea...many, many breeders feel as you do...and I wish that I could embrace the idea...but I am confused so I just trust my vet to make the right decisions, unless I have strong convictions about something...as you do about this.
I admire you for speaking up and for posting the link to educate others, and I plan to read the link carefully too. Thanks!

AnnMarie, I am soooooo happy that Max is feeling better! It is one of the hardest things to go through, because like a baby, dogs can't tell us what is wrong...
Thank goodness he is feeling better now...big hugs from the Back Porch crew!

and everyone else!!!
Max hopefully will keep his bland diet food down today...fingers are crossed. I feel like I have a 3yr old baby right now and can't wait for Max to be 100% again.

Everyone here is great!!!! and understands too!!!
NON-pet owners dont' get it and give you a strange look when you say you're worried.

OK just called my VET and Max is going in today!!!
He is back to diarhea again.

DOES anyone have reccomendations like putting nature's miracle in carpet cleaner? or just treat the area again then clean it?

PS my fiance just called...seems one of my teenagers by mistake fed Max his regular food yesterday while I was at work
I worked 12hrs and they thought they were helping. If max isn't regular by tomorrow then the VET wants to see him again.
