Hi fellow dog lovers,
So I thought I'd share my little story here, especially after reading the article "prevent separation anxiety in dogs" from Insider.
If it just helps 1 dog family out there, I'd be happy
So I have a Cocker Spaniel that I adopted from a rescue shelter 2 years ago, and I've been so blessed to have him in my life, his name is Tobin
.
But as with many dogs and especially shelter dogs he had some problems..
For example when guests came over my dog would bark non stop and eventually flee to a corner in the house..
Or whenever me and my husband would go for a walk with him he would bark furiously at other dogs and keep pulling on the leash..
But worst of all we could never leave him alone for longer periods of time because then we would come home to a house often with pee on the floor, pillows teared apart and a dog barking and jumping all over the place..
I kinda felt guilty that my dog wasn't happy..
And I kept thinking that my dog really deserved better than being scared and frustrated all the time.
I missed the times my dog was just this happy innocent little dog with not a worry in its life, and having the feeling of being a worry-free dog owner.
So I knew I had to take action.. I turned to professionals and talked with our local VET and it didn't take long for her to determine that our dog indeed had anxiety and separation anxiety which is a rising problem during covid-19 she said.
So she gave us some different methods to try out.
Some of the methods we tried did work for some time, but after a few weeks we were back to normal behavior again.
I tried making adjustments to my own schedule so my dog wouldn't be alone for that long.. But that wasn't a sustainable solution either sadly.
I tried googling all sorts of things to do, but again, nothing seemed to last.
My husband and I sat down and had a discussion about it and everything came up in the air, even bringing my dog back to the shelter..
But I could never do that, I love him, he's part of the family.
Then during another excessive google session, looking for SOME sort of answer I stumbled upon this website Bedwonders.
They specialize in offering a complete anxiety free solution for dogs.
They have this anxiety-free orthopedic joint saving bed specifically made for dogs to feel safe at home reducing their anxiety level, together with tons of material all made to get rid of your dog's anxiety, for good.
There's anxiety reducing music playlists for dogs, training courses, a cookbook, videos and muuch much more.. There's even an interview with a dog behaviorist answering all the questions you could think of.
Anyway, so with nothing to lose and me having tried pretty much everything out there for my dog I gave it a go and ordered their complete anxiety relieving solution..
And I gotta say that after just 15 days I already started to notice a change in my dog's behavior, and after 30 days I had the dog I always dreamt of!
He stopped whining and barking when left alone, he hasn't peed or eaten any furniture for a month and even my friends can see the difference when coming over. It's more than I could ever hope for.
Even though my dog is 2½ years old and I thought it was impossible for an older dog to learn new tricks this was just what i dreamt of.
So please, if you have a dog that may have similar problems don't hesitate to do something about it, reach out, contact your VET, a dog behaviorist or whatever may be the right solution for you and your dog.
I'm just recommending Bedwonders ( www.bedwonders.com ) to everyone I know who owns a dog. Even if it doesn't have anxiety as mine had, because I believe any dog would benefit going through this.
After reading through this I just wanna say that I did not receive anything extra from Bedwonders for recommending them, I'm honestly just so happy to have my dog back and hoping to help other dog owners with similar problems, as I know how much of a pain it can be.
Stay safe and all the best to you and your furry friends
