I have another poop-related question (sorry!!). Remy has always had the sensitive tummy. About 2 months ago we made changes to her diet and started her on a probiotic powder and she had amazing poops. I thought we had solved the poop problem. But then 2 weeks ago she started having soft poops and then two days/nights of diarrhea. We took her to the vet. They didn't see parasites or worms. We started her on a 5-day antibiotic and chicken and rice. The vet said they had to send a sample out to the lab to check for giuardia, but if she had it they would give the same antibiotic anyway.

After 5 days on the antibiotics and chicken and rice, we started her back on her regular diet and the powder. She didn't have any more diarrhea but her poops were still the pudding type. I kept on expecting them to get better. Then last night she was up during the night with pudding poop and has had two diarrhea poops this morning. We're going back to the vet, but we couldn't get an appointment until tomorrow.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what this can be? I'm thinking it's not food-related. She's also had these weird small white balls in her poop once yesterday and once this morning. I can't figure out what they are and am worrying they could be some sort of eggs (I have no idea if that is possible). Thanks for any suggestions!

I would just start her on 7days of Panacur (ask the vet)
this will kill giardia and hooks and rounds,
sometimes the techs have problems reading fecals,
i always have my vet check behind the tech reading the fecal ,
it could be giardia, how long before the results come back?
the panacur wont hurt ,unsure why your vet didnt just give it just in case,, another office visit charge perhaps,, sheesh

The white balls don't look like rice -- they're round and hard, like tiny pieces of styrofoam. I even tried to smush one with my finger (yuck). Probably it's just something she ate coming through, but I couldn't figure out what and got a little paranoid. I'll ask the vet about Panacur. She was on 5 days of Metronidazole before and it definitely stopped the diarrhea for a while, but now it's back.

Also, the vet didn't sent the sample out the lab to for guiardia when we went in last time -- she said that since the antibiotic she gave me was what she would prescribe for guiardia, sending a sample out was pointless unless it didn't get cleared up. I'll ask her to send a sample out when we go in tomorrow.

Betsy we went through this in past with Max as a puppy, did all kinds of meds just in case whipworms werent' testing postitive etc
he tested negative to everything!!! but still mushy to diarrhea was happening

I made up a customized diet (wh/vet also liked) and kept Max on it for awhile so his intestines could properly heal, relax and so on

whenkids have rotovirus, it can take 4 to 6 weeks on average before they can eat regular foods without having diarrhea kick back in. THUS, we
1. fed him homemade diet till he had solid poops for a week
2. tried so many dog foods and had to keep him on bland diet

3. when we finally could get him back on dogfood we did it extremely slow which tremendously helped! 1/8 cup in one meal for 3 days, if poop was fine then 1/8 in 2 meals a day and so on till he ended up 100% on dogfood again
Canidae was the only one he could properly digest

DONT" KNOW IF this helps and i sure hope you get to the bottom of this as its worrisome adn you want your doodle "all better"
