This is round two at trying to rescue a doodle and a second to our pack. Someone beat us to Lilly the first time we tried, but this one is only 1h from our house. I've called and emailed the rescue and am waiting for a call back. Its another girl to go with our Hershey girl. Cross any fingers you have.....

Getting a little back on track....we got a call from the rescue on the weekend and we get to meet Bailey on tuesday. She told us Bailey is 2-3 yrs old, and was rescued from death row in a lousianna kill shelter. That sure is a long way from canada. She is house/crate/leash trained. We are bringing Hershey to see if they get along.

What questions/ what should I be looking for besides if the dogs get along and if she is generally healthy.
Might be a good idea to leave Hershey in the car initially and first see how she reacts to you guys. You want a dog that's people-oriented as well as one who can get along with the resident pup. And then if you're comfortable with the way she interacts with you, try adding Hershey to the mix. You don't know what kinds of experiences she's had with other dogs, so if she's spooked by a large, friendly doodle that may not be such a black mark against her as long as she seems responsive to the humans involved.

Lots of luck!

Leslie
I would think that the shelter has already checked Bailey for any signs of illness so all I can say is your heart will let you know and by looking at those eyes, I would say she'll be going home with you Tuesday as long as she and Hershey hit it off and I'm betting they will

We're sure wishing you all the luck in the world here in Kansas :)
You are doing a wonderful thing for Bailey!! I'l just bet that Bailey and Hershey become best pals in no time at all! Best wishes to you; I'm just so sure this is going to turn out great!
How did the visi with Bailey go?
Please Please tell us what happened!
Updates will be coming, but in a few days :( . The rescue is on a farm and the owner had to be away on farm buisness. Not sure what that is but she resceduled for thursday night.....my birthday. We're getting pretty excited.

For those that have 2 doodles, where do they sleep? Hershey sleeps with us, usually on the floor but occasionally on the bed. We are not sure we have room for another on the bed, and if they are in the room together will they wrestle all night? Is it bad to have one in the room and another in a different room, seems kinda like having favourites.
Jonah and Miko spend the first 5 minutes after lights out wrestling over who gets to claim the "prime real estate", Jonah usually wins! Then he usually gets off the bed and sleeps on the floor, returning again sometime during the night. Thank goodness for a queen sized bed!

They two dogs will make the decision for you once they establish their place in the pack.
That is a good omen, it is on your b-day so how can it go bad :D I am so excited for you and for Bailey.

I don't have 2 doodles but I have 1 Doodle, Archie, and a Lab, Sam. I bought Sam a nice cushy bed of his own since he sheds and that is where Sam sleeps. Archie sleeps in bed with us.

Bailey will be coming into a new home and will be perfectly happy having her own bed, she won't know the difference. You might even put up a kiddie gate to keep her in her own room at night and it won't take her long before she will catch on to the routine and know that when the kiddie gate goes up, it's lights out and bed time. All I have to do is tell Sam it's bedtime and he goes to his bed.

Good luck tomorrow night and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!
YEAH :) I'm happy for you guys.

Concerning sleeping - we just went through this with Kirby and Dexter. The first 3-4 nights Kirby slept in his crate and Dexter slept in our bedroom. Then I realized that Kirby is very trustworthy (probably more so than Dexter) so for the last 3-4 nights we have had both on our bedroom floor and it's been great. Kirby is very very well behaved and is a quiet little angel until we tell him it's time to go outside. Oh we leave them some chew toys (non squeaky ones) on the floor in case they get bored during the night.
Ooooh, here's hoping for a perfect birthday gift!

Don't worry, they find their place to sleep...and we usually just curl our feet up closer to make room! LOL
Update: We are still in a single doodle family. We met Bailey today, and she was a great dog, but not siuted to what we want. She was friendly and well behaved but she and Hershey didnt hit it off. In fact they completely ignored each other. This was the first dog ever that Hershey didnt try to lick, doodle 500, ultimate wrestle, or what have you. They both ignored each other. It was weird, so we passed. We are very sad, but it was the right decision. Bailey would have been perfect for someone looking to be a single dog house, but she wasn't righ for us. thanks for all the well wishing, we'll keep looking.
