We are picking up our new puppy on Christmas eve to be a Christmas present for our twin boys. They are going to love her and we are very excited! I was kinda wondering about her coat though.....she is a F1 labradoodle and I already know she sheds a little, which does not bother me, but if a dog sheds does that mean it is MORE likely to cause allergy problems OR can a dog shed but still be hypoallergenic. Does anyone know?

Regardless we will love her I am just curious about the shedding/hypoallergenic thing.

Thanks

I'm pretty sure about this.... from my understanding, if the dog sheds, it produces dander, which is what most people are allergic to. The less they shed, the less dander is produced. This is why the labradoodle is considered "allergy friendly" since they can still produce dander, but the less they shed, the less dander is produced.

But, it also depends on how allergic the person is. So, its slightly complicated to figure out if a person is going to be allergic.

Congratulations! I also have twins (boy/girl) and they ADORE our 11 mos. old Labradoodle, Angel.

I'm not sure about the allergy thing. You may want to do a search and see what you find. I know that the topic has been covered before. There are people on this forum that are allergic and haven't had reactions to their dogs. I am interested too, my brother-in-law and nephew are very allergic and tonight will be the first time they are in our house since we've gotten Angel. We'll see if they are bothered by her! She is a shedder.

I placed a pup in a home that was an F1B but it looked and shed just like an F1. There were allergy issues with the owner but the pup did not trigger any allergies.

If you have allergies and are getting a shedding F1 I would think twice. Of course it depends on what you (or children) are allergic too. This is all stuff to talk over with your breeder, they should know how others have reacted to their pups.

By the way...Angel is a F1B. So...yes, talk with your breeder if allergies are an issue because even with F1B you can end up with a shedder like I did. I'm happy to report that there were no allergy reactions from my brother-in-law or nephew last night. My nephew was playing with and petting her! :D

We got her and.......so far so good! She doesn't bother the family member with allergies!

I'm in love. She is so smart! Barely 8 weeks old and she has had no accidents in the house so far.

Oh my! Mia is a doll baby!! Such a sweetheart! Keep taking pictures!~
Welcome to the forum....Can't answer questions about allergies, really...I have allergies, but not to dogs though.

I just love Mia's sweet face. We are going tomorrow to look at a new litter. My grandson wants a dog and we are trying to convince them that maybe a doodle is a good choice.....We'll see. They may want a smaller dog in the end.

BUT, I get to see more puppies and that will be a joy!

Charlie is an F1 and he sheds a little bit, seems more now than the summer, but still not too too bad. My mother-in-law has pretty bad allergies, especially to animals, and she has no problem being in our house. Over Christmas we had other relatives over with allergies, and none of them had a problem either.
