Ok, she didn't know she saved a squirrel. She was trying to get one.

We had just come back from a walk when a squirrel ran right in front of her in the back yard. Of course she took chase. What self respecting doodle wouldn't? Right after she took off after it, a hawk swooped down about the same distance from it as Cinnamon was. The hawk checked it's descent about the same time as Cinnamon saw it. I thought the hawk was going to hit the fence. I don't think it saw Cin until the last minute either. The squirrel got away. I'm sure the hawk thought he had dinner for a while. If we hadn't come back when we did, he would have.

If squirrels wore pants, it would have had to change them!

I remember as a kid the family dog (Lab/Goldie mix) got a squirrel once. It was eating out of the bird feeder, and as soon as I opned the door to let the dog out, he was off. By the time the squirrel got back down to the ground to run, the dog was right there. He shook it around like his teddy bear, then flipped it about 10 feet in the air. It didn't get back up. Poor Dryfus kept nudging him, wanting him to get back up to play some more! It was always a joke that he would get one some day, but he never came close before that day.

Good Job Cinnamon ... Saved it for yourself, right? :wink: Those flyee things sure are a nuisance! I always have to give the ones who honk and fly in a vee my strongest opinions! That squirrel owes you ... maybe he'll bring you a tasty acorn or something as thanks! But remember....you are a doodle! Next time you see one you tell it like it is :!:

Man that's one lucky squirrel! But can you imagine the terror it must have felt... Doodle coming up behind, hawk from above... Poor squirrel probably figured it was gonna lose it's nuts for sure! YIKES!

Go Cin!!! OK-I shared this recently in a pm, but since it fits, I'll share it with the group.

One of our neighbors at the lake has an older, fat, little pug. He let the dog out, unsupervised, one night around 10. Shortly after he heard his dog screaming in fear! He ran out expecting to find a coyote but instead found a great horned owl with it's talons gripped into his pug's sides trying desperately to get airborne with this wonderful gourmet dinner!! :shock: He forced the owl off of his dog!! No real harm came to the pug except talon marks in its sides; plus it developed a new-found respect for owls and supervised outings!! :lol:

OMG Diane ... The poor pug was probably scared to death, it's owner in a frenzy and all h&^*^&l was breaking loose ... but still I just laughed! :lol: :lol: :lol:

Pugs are the current dog du jour in our neighborhood (as well as boxers :? ) and while most are funny and cute some are really obnoxious! I just had a picture in my head of one of those annoying ones in the grip of an owl and :lol: :lol: :lol: !

this doesn't fit but sure is funny.....our neighbor's cat MOOKEY looks like it swalloed a small basketball.
anyway know how they say a cat lands on its feet? NOT MOOKEY hahhaha he tries to run up my apple tree every summer after a bird.
Problem is gravity has a stronger hold on Mookey then Mookey does with his claws on the tree hahaa he gets half way up and always falls down!! hahhaaa
he has yet to catch a bird in 5 years now hahhaaa

If I were the pug, I wouldn't. Forget it, no way! At least not with out an escort. I wonder how long it took it not to flinch at any sound.

We used to lose cats to owls once in a while, but not dogs.
