NickW, congratulations!! I have a 6-month old F1 cream LD and just got a nine week old black LD. Life is busy but fun! So glad you're enjoying your pup...and yes, the crate is a beautiful thing indeed!
Cor - you must have lots of energy! Good luck, I'd LOVE to have two.

Woody is settling in really well and is responding to toilet training. He's so affectionate and interested in everything that's going on. The only slight problem is he likes using his teeth when I'm playing with him. Obviously I want to stop this so each time he does it I push him gently away and say "No!" Am I doing the right thing or is there a better way?

I've got one too!!! I've got one too!!!

Well, my wife and I just picked up our 10 week old Kona who is an F1 Labradoodle. (Like we just picked her up 3 hours ago and here I am bragging already). Poor thing had a 6 hour flight early this morning, but she's already playing and sleeping as if nothing ever happened. She's all black and 14 lbs. I can't believe how awesome she is already. She seems to know her name after just a few hours. She's not too sure about her crate after the airplane ride she had, but I think she'll warm up to it just fine. We're really looking forward to training and getting to know our little Kona girl......I can't believe how sappy I'm being about this dog. She really is so much more than I expected though. Anyway, thanks for the cool forum and I'll be back. Tim & Kim

Here are links to another site where I posted pictures of our Lexi. Don't know how and did not have the time right now to figure out how to post pictures on this site - hope this works:

Yeah, we are Disney nuts too . . .

Trying hard to housebreak all week last week, but we had lousy, muddy weather. She does know what to do when outside, but has not learned that she should NOT go when inside. Also trying to stop that biting and chewing of items that are not allowed (especially fingers and toes). We are finding that the shaking coins is working.

Puppy classes start next week!

Wow, Lexi looks just like our Woody (see pics upthread). He's now 13 weeks old and we've had him for a month. I think we've been blessed (touch wood) - he is a fantastic dog: really intelligent, cheeky, lovely temperament, absolutely beautiful and he is now house-trained too. He's growing so quickly so I will try and post some new pics soon.

Had a fantastic walk in the Ashdown Forest yesterday near where we live and he loved it - running along, sticking his nose into everything. He always responds to the whistle and comes back to us straight away. We consider ourselves very lucky.

Hi NickW -

My son and I were laughing as we looked at your pictures - spitting images thousands of miles apart. How funny. I must say though, that all of Lexi's chocolate siblings looked just like her too -

Here's a link to our breeder's web page so you can see for yourself:

She was the "purple collar female"

Is Woody a 1st gen doodle? Lexi is.

According to the breeder - and I take it with a bit of salt, she supposedly will have a long wavy coat. She is getting better at potty training, she is just at that puppy nipping stage. Our young daughter climbs the furniture whenever she is out as she nips at her toes. We have had a lot of fun with her though, and she is a retriever through and through. I can throw any number of her toys across the room, and she will fetch and drop it when she brings it back for me to throw it again - at eight weeks.

Thanks for sharing.

Our new puppy comes home next week

I am bringing her home next week at 7 weeks old... I know this is young as this is my 4th dog but she is so big and I have a 7 year old golden retriever at home to be her "Auntie Jersy". I have gone out and visited her since she was 4 weeks old and I have a really good feeling about her. She should be an awesome dog because she is so laid back already. I always do the "lay on their back" routine when picking out my puppies. They must be willing to roll onto their backs and lay in my arms without a lot of resistence. I find this separates the more laid back pups from the dominant ones. It all depends on what you want in personality but I find that the submissive personality works best for me. First time I will have to crate train because I work part time every morning... I will be haunting this forum for tips on this aspect of puppy training. Plus I know that the lab in labradoodle means this pup will want to chew a lot more than my golden's did so a crate will be helpful to supervise that behavior once it starts happening... I am so excited to bring my new pup home. She doesn't have a name yet but we have a list going to choose from. I haven't figured out how to post a picture yet but I will get to work on that now.

Congratulations!

We got Sadie at 7 weeks and she was just fine. She had been weaned for a couple of weeks and was eating solid food and drinking well before the breeder let her go.

The first couple of days she was very quiet, and preferred to sleep right up against the front or back door. I though she found the house too warm and was trying to keep cool. After that she came to life, and exhibited all of the usual puppy exuberance. She was one of the quiet ones at the breeders with all of the puppies together, but once she was comfortable in her new home she became quite the party girl! It is nice that your pup will have another dog to play with. That will keep her busy and tire her out too!

Enjoy your new pup.

Pup at 7 weeks

I also think with it being winter the litter is getting to be quite a handful in my breeder's house. She didn't expect this litter it was an OOPS... Both parents are AKC so she is a true L1 doodle but it's getting difficult to keep them clean... There are 10 pups. Plus I am just dying to have her here. I know the first week may involve some crying at night but I am prepared to get up and get her out to potty. Plus I think my wonderful "Jersy Girl" golden will help with this as well.

Puppy update

Well, I changed my mind on the pup I'm bringing home. I have decided on the "runt" little girl... she is so sweet and really seems to be more interested in me than the original pup I picked out. I started looking at this litter when they were just over 4 weeks old and I've learned that even though it has been a lot of fun, they really are too young then to get a good idea of personality. They are now almost 7 weeks old and it is much easier to see the type of dog they tend to be. I think the latest name is going to be Layla but we will see once we get her home in 3 days!! I am so excited to add her to my family. My 7 year old Golden, Jersey should be a big help in getting her adjusted to our home. I have the crate set up in my kitchen area and I have gated off a 7x7 foot area that I plan to cover with newspapers until she gets old enough to be crated while I am at work. Her crate will be in there but I will leave the door open so she can sleep in there. I only work part time for 3 1/2 hours every morning but that is too long to expect her to keep from pottying in her crate. I am not big on newspaper training but this seems the only way to handle it until she is 8-9 weeks old. When I am home with her we will be using the outside pen to "do our business". Hopefully this won't confuse her too much. I have not worked before when I brought my other dogs home as pups so this crate training is new to me. Any advice would be welcome. Is it going to be hard to make the transition from newspapers to only outside?

this is my first post. I am bursting with excitement. We are waiting/fretting/longing for our doodle puppy. We've raised pups before so, we consider ourselves experienced. However, we wonder if our girl will be safe/relatively calm on the flight to reach us? Should I fly there and bring her back? Will she be safe on a direct flight?[/quote]
