I'm so frustrated with this camera I have that I'm out to buy one in the next couple of days.
I not only need it for my doodle growing up but also for my job...........any recommendations?
No more than $3-400 if possible........less would even be nicer!

Hi Linda,

I've had a my Cannon Powershot A630 for over a year. I like it because it takes nice shots and it has a viwing screen in the back that can be opened or closed and rotated. This allows me to hold the camera over my head to shoot a picture and still see the viewing screen. http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2704,2033328,00.asp
My husband has a sony. My suggestion is that you read a few reviews. Your choice really depends on what you're looking for in a camera.

Here are a few links that might help:

Lori,
Thanks! Those are some good sites!
I found some good reviews on the Olympus Stylus 790 and the Canon Powershot .........different one then yours.........but this really helps get me started!
Also.........annmarie.....still looking into yours.
Okay, Linda needs to stop & think....lol.......when i say I want to get something, I sometimes jump in too fast! All your advice is really appreciated.

Also..........night shots.......want a camera for night shots. Bogie was JUST doing the doodle 500 in the yard at 11PM..........it was hysterical!! I wish I could've captured that!!!

Canon puts out some great cameras

I only have teh Olympus E510 as both Dave and I have been waiting Years to do some photography as a hobby and a camera we could grow with doing both SLR and auto along with panaoramic

i used to have a Pentax Zoom waterproof was great for years
the only thing i didn't like about Pentax was the low light or night shots weren't that highly rated

and like you i want to do lowlight and nightime shots

we had teh $200 digital camera just to learn digital
it was the Kodak Easy share z710 or something like that
I would NOT recommend it at all! the software has more bugs in it
than a fly strip in a barn hahhahaaaaaaaaa

good luck in your camera hunt!

I am in the market for a new camera too!!
I tried to buy one - it's such a necessity for breeding - and I (stupidly) ordered one from Amazon that is NOT digital! duh. I forget that there really is something out there called film for a camera! lol

Anyway, I think your camera Shanon, is one that I will be looking at! The night photos are great!!

It's also $325 at Amazon.com instead of 399, by the way.

Also, there's a Panasonic camera, "Lumix" is their line - that has a Leica lens and it's supposed to be decent for action, and God knows our puppies are good at action! So that's the other line I'm looking at, while I try to wait or save up for a REAL SLR digital Canon EOS!

I DO NOT envy any of you looking to buy a camera right now

the choices are endless!!! and I know it took Dave and I a full year to decide!! OK i am one to do the "when in doubt, dont'" and wait. Then drive everyone nuts doing tons of research and reviews writing a pro and con list with my priorites next

One of the reasons I got this one was because it said that it was supposed to be the point and shoot that is closest to the DSLR cameras. Now, it does take good action shots as you could see by the contortionist doodles. I could never get anything that clear with my sony cybershot. I liked my sony, but all of a sudden, it would not hold the juice, like when I stuck new batteries in, it would automatically die, and not come back on. I could maybe get 5 pictures from it. I tried brand new batteries and I tried rechargeable batteries that had just been charged. When I looked this problem up, it seemed that a lot of people had the same issues with their sony's.

Shannon did you look at any of the Rebel's at the lower end?
I'm a little scared of the DSLR, yet I HATE with a PASSION the delay I get with my Fuji!

I was looking at the Canon Rebel K2, if I recall the letters correctly. It's considerably less than the Rebel EOS XTi, so it has to be more of a point/shoot, right?

I'm liking what you are saying about the one you have, I'm just curious how you landed on that one, if you have a minute to elaborate.

thanks!!

Well, I had asked another lady what type of camera would be best to get if I wanted one close to a DSLR and one that would take short videos as well. This one does both and the DSLR's don't. The lady I asked has a lot of camera knowledge and takes awesome pictures, so that is how I landed on this one. I looked at the Rebel xti, but it was too much. Here is a nice action shot that I got with this one. These were all outside and it was cold as heck

and just a couple of others

Hey, I see it as a matter of compromise.. LOL Your husband gets the tv, which you get to watch and you get the camera that he will most likely hardly use.. LOL I really do like the camera, but you can also go into a place like best buy and test the cameras yourself for what you are looking for. Be sure to check it with the flash and without. I missed so many shots with my sony , and I really like this one! The Sony's battery dies too fast, the shutter speed was too slow, and especially outside, you can get many shots at once quickly.

Since I spend a lot of time on our flats boat fly fishing I need a camera that's waterproof. We have had such great luck with the Pentax Optio W43 that I just ordered the new model from them it's the W30 now. It's also 7.1 megapixels now. Our last one was only 4mp's. It also takes fine video  for only $199 after rebate from Amazon. I think it's a real bargain at that price...m

I would (like Shannon said) go to Best Buy or Circuit City and test out the cameras. Then what we do is purchase them on amazon. There is no tax and no shipping. We have always had good experiences buying from them. Oh yeah - we only buy (mostly) directly from amazon and not their smaller stores...

I have been real happy the results of mine. I got it last year shortly after we got Marley I love the shots I have taken. Easy to use. Good night shots(the first oic I took was in a totally dark room and you could not tell in the least) excellent zoom, lots of settings, big LCD display (3"), super clear videos. All at a very resonable price of about $300. Panasonic - Lumix 7.2-Megapixel Digital Camera - Silver Model: DMC-TZ3S. This camera is at least worth checking out.

I agree...Go to the stores and learn about them, play with them. I just bought mine there because I needed instant gratification!!! Good luck.

Take a look at results if you like:
