Ok it looks like on Max's elbow he is developing a callus? he isnt' crated alot....just wondering if anyone else's doodle has one?

i've seen them on other dogs usually OLDER...max is only 14mos old.

i am keeping an eye on it and probably will call the vet soon to make sure it's nothing

Try rubbing some bag balm on it. Bag balm's an antiseptic and a moisturizer so it would be helpful until you decide whether or not to call the vet.

When I got Jonah he had calluses on both his elbows. Being the worried daddy I was (am), I asked the vet because at that time I didn't know what they were. He told me they were calluses from being on a hard surface. So I called the breeder, sure enough, Jonah LOVED laying on the cement part of their back yard. He no longer has them, but I used Udder cream.

thanks.....i have real hard mexican tiles and laminate floors though he does like laying on the wool throw rugs at times

We have hard wood throughout the entire house and Hershey has them on each elbow> we out bag balm on them so they dont get red and irritated, they are just hairless patches now. We have added a few cushions on the floors for her and are encouraging her to lay on them now that it isnt so hot. As long as they dont get red and raw, its ok.

Where do you buy Udder Cream, or Bag Balm???

I have looked everywhere for it and can't find anyone that has it.

I bought some stuff at Petco for Coco's pads called
Spaw Essentials
Healing PawBalm with Shea Butter
It was 12.99 for 2 oz. ~comes in a little jar....rubsd in pretty well, only need a tiny bit. Will let you know how well is moisturizes after a few days
use.

I got my tin (it's green) of Bag Balm at WalMart in the pet section. I can't remember if it was in the dog aisle, but it was somewhere in the pet section.

udder cream I've gotten any where from Wal-mart...in the pharmacy section, to at the check out at Jo-ann fabrics.

I've found that bag balm was less expensive at Agway, Tractor Supply, or any other farm supply store. The stores tend to charge a premium when they are selling to people rather than animals. Go figure...

Cinnamon has calluses on her elbows. She lays on the concrete floors in the basement while I'm working. We have ceramic tile in the kitchen she lays on too, much cooler in the summer than carpet.

I never worried too much about them. it's kind of like calluses on your feet. You need them to walk without pain.
