Ouch in response to biting
I agree with the use of a very loud "ouch" when dealing with a biter. I've been taking Mia to puppy class and it's one of the first things our trainer taught us. She said it has the same effect as when another dog yelps ... a kind of canine "Back off!!" ... if it's being nipped or hurt during a rough-housing session. Our trainer has even suggested using it when they are jumping up to grab things like socks or shoes when you're trying to get dressed in the morning or if they mouth your hand inappropriately to get at a treat.
