Hi everyone,

We've now had Belle for a week. Last night at 3am she was whining extensively in her crate. I got up and took her outside. She had a huge bout of diarrhea. About 10 minutes ago, she just vomited a yellowish liquid. Any suggestions on why? I'll give you a run down on what has happened in the last week~~~

She was on Iams (green bag) from her owner. I want to eventually switch her to Sensible Choice, so I added a little bit of it to her Iams on her first day here. This mixture has been consistent for the last week. She has had normal stools until last night. On Thursday she wouldn't eat anything from her bowl, but did eat the treats we were using to train her on the electric fence. She also ate one larger treat on Thursday. Yesterday we took her to the vet for a check up. Her stool (which was normal yesterday morning) was negative at the vet. We did have her micro-chipped yesterday at the vet as well. She has been eating a little grass all week (we've had her on a leash, so I know she hasn't had a lot). I don't think the owners gave her any treats at all, so I'm not sure if the treats are causing her tummy to be upset or not. She is very punk today and just laying around. I can't get her to drink any water either. We have well water as well, not sure if that is a problem. She has been doing fine for 7 days with the same food/water, etc. Could the stress of the microchip caused her to be sick? She has had no table food, and she doesn't chew things other than her rawhide! Okay, any thougths would be great! She was in good spirits yesterday, although she didn't eat much. Thanks again,

Kim

Jac,

Thanks for the reply. Is it okay if she drinks out of hose? I might be able to convince her to drink if I have the hose going! She just went out to go to the bathroom and she had alot of gas and diarrhea again. She still hasn't drank anything. She likes ice, so I'll try that too. She looks so pitiful :( . I will keep you updated. Thanks,

Kim

Jac,

She weighs 47 pounds, about 22inches tall (feet to back standing). She is just over 1 year old. I know this week has been pretty stressful for her. Leaving the only home she ever knew, new house, new commands, learning the electric fence, the microchipping, etc., I'm sure is weighing in on her. I will keep trying to get her to drink. She is just laying around, but still is perky enough to notice people walking by and wagging her tail. I'll keep you posted. If she has worms would I see them in her poop? Would the vet have noticed them with the stool sample? Thanks again,

Jac,

Belle only chews on rawhide. I checked the rawhide she has and it's still intact. She only chews every once in a while. My husband said he saw he drinking some standing water on the kids playgym a couple of days ago. He stopped her as soon as he saw her, he thinks she took a couple of slurps only. The hose is straight from our well. We don't drink from it, but I think it might be okay- just straight from the well untreated. My hubby said she drank from the hose two days ago as well. Would the diarrhea come right away from getting some sort of bacteria? Like food poisoning in an adult? I say that, because she had normal stools up until early this am. She ate two ice cubes on the deck, but let the other ones melt. Her nose is still wet and cool. I'll keep an eye on her and if it gets worse I'll call the emergency vet, it not I'll call our vet in the morning. I hope its just stress. Do you think she might be missing her first family enough to make her ill? Thanks Jac.

Belle is getting better!! She started taking ice chips a few hours ago. I gave her the pumpkin stuff about 2 hours ago and about 1 hour ago she started eating her food again!! YEAH! She had two more small bouts of diarrhea earlier in the day, but nothing this evening! She is playing with her tennis balls and has a much happier disposition. I hope she continues feeling better! Jac, thanks for all the great advice and for being a sounding board. I just don't want to miss something important in her health. Thanks again, have a great night!
